Default What should I do about this rust on the cylinder walls?

I have just a very slight amount of rust from when i cleaned the block yesterday. It just was too cold to get the block dry and oiled before it started to rust. Most of it wiped right out but if you look closely you will still see a little. WIll this go away once it is running? Do I need to run the hone just a little bit? Oh and it was already bored .030 over and honed at the shop. So far i have just measured the top rings gap and they are all about 15 or 16 thousandths. Would it even be safe to hone at this point and risk going to big?

i would use a ballhone..
shoot some penetrating oil in it and run the ballhone in it, keep it good and wet with the oil... tranny fluid will work also... you just dont want the ballhone going dry while your honing, it'll streak or scar the wall possibly... just try to match the pattern already honed in the block and you'll be good... you wont hurt the bore size..

Yeah you don't want to hone it again now. You would have to wash the block again and it would totally defeat the purpose.

Yeah I don't want to make another trip to the car wash...

So when you guys put a motor together what steps do you take to make sure there are no particles in the engine. Also how detremental would a few fibers or particles here or there? I'm not talking about cylinder walls and journal surfaces those will be spotless, but what about the lifter valley or the oil pan area?

Constantly check it and blow it out with the Air Compressor. That and asemble it in a clean enviroment.
