Default LT1 Engine Bay Delete

What can I lose out of a stock LT1 engine bay and not hurt (I know tuning may be required). I know that I will never be able to easily access the opti, but there is always hope. I just want to lose excess weight and make it look nice.

Lose the air pump first and maybe do the LS1 lid mod. Just doing those two things will significantly improve the access to replace the opti.

I can actually change mine complete start to finish in less than 2 hours.

Is this your DD? If not, ditch HVAC, AIR, power steering and do a low-mount alt. LOL

I love the title LT1 Engine Bay Delete lol. Delete it all man!!! Just kidding. ok remove everything except the engine & accessories & the MAF now replace with performance parts. That’s the easy version. If you need to pass emissions you need to find out what you have to keep.

Ok a few questions. What is the LS1 lid mod? Sorry this is my first LT1. This is not a daily driver, it is a weekend warrior and I do not have to pass emissions. It currently has a low rpm miss or stutter and I want to remove whatever I can to help with the later install of headers and other performance items.

No not a daily driver and not emissions. Just my 6-speed weekend warrior. I would like to retain the air though.

Is there a thread on this? I would love to lose the opti. I have nightmares about changing this!! What is involved? I have read some information about the coilpacks and something from a northstar??

opti is not a bad job, just need to remove intake, air pump, fans, and balancer pully...took me 4 hrs start to finidh yesterday on my first opti replace.

Other than the timing cover gasket job that took 3 weeks due to parts on order and working 1 day a week on it and not even full days.

Can anyone post pics of their engine bays? I would like to see what or how lean you can go in the engine bay.

Also, do you have to remove the intake for the opti replacement or the intake tube? If I am going to go that deep I am going to do a cam swap as well.

Are there any threads on step by step instructions on how to remove the air or emmissions and other equipment under the hood? Looks pretty intimidating.

Really I always have thought that except for removing the air pump and air intake tubing the only difficult issue for removing the opti is pulling the damper. Other than that, its pretty simple, quick and easy.

Anyone ever have a low rpm miss or stutter? It is driving me nutts with driving it. When and if I have to do the opti, I will remove all of the clutter!! I just want to remove everything that requires no tuning or computer adjustment.

you wanna clean that thing up:

Do a manual brake conversion remove the abs and get rid of power steering
Delete the hvac, air, evap, and egr
Do the fuel line mod (run braided lines from the back of the fuel rails)
Low mount alternator
Mount battery in the trunk

The easiest mods to do are removing the AIR/EGR **** and doing the intake elbow...you loose a little weight and the aftermarket elbows looks sooo much nicer.
