85w-140 lucas non synthetic and either gm additive or any friction modifier for limited slip differentials I think I used "equa torque" last time.

Yes posi additive. There are many diff fluids you can use, I use 75w-90 regular castrol with limited slip additive.

An 85w-140 synth with diff additive. The broader viscosity index will allow the oil to perform better in all conditions, and most of the synthetics do a better job at resisting the inevitable acid formation. Whichever you decide to use, don't forget to use the additive or your posi won't love you anymore. Unless of course the oil you use already has the friction modifying additive already in it.
And yes, it's all available at the parts stores.

The limited slip additive I've always used was the GM brand, I'd get it right from the dealership. I think it was like 8 or 9 dollars.

You can get most brands of gear oil like Mobil1, Castrol, Lucas etc at Autozone, but the higher end stuff like Redline you've gotta order off the internet. You'll need 2 bottles of gear oil.

Pour in all of the first gear oil bottle, then the little bottle of additive, then the second bottle of gear oil. You won't use all of the second gear oil bottle though. If I remember correctly it was like roughly 3/4 of the second will go in before it spills out of the overflow hole.

I've been running Redline 75w90 synthetic for 4 years now.

Car just turned 100,000 miles.

No problems whatsoever with the clutches in my carrier.

Just buy Royal Purple...it's a little more expensive, but it has the additive already in it so it's good to go, and it's available at autozone

i havent had any problems yet. the article i read says synthetic fluid will make the clutches slip and cause one wheel peel conditions.

If you use synthetic with no friction modifier, it sure will. If you use the right stuff, no problems.

It's great stuff but you're looking at a $40 fluid change.

They aren't even close.
The best oils/greases on the market can't be found on a commodity basis (ie. stocked on the shelf at a parts store).

Royal Purple is overrated, no better than Castrol or Mobil1.

Check out Amsoil or Redline if you really want the best gear oils out there.
