Ran my 95 Firehawk tonight at Atco
Well just got back from Atco.. Made 4 passes in the 95 Firehawk..
1st pass
60': 2.08
1/8: 8.9 @ 80mph
1/4: 13.830@100.09mph.
2nd pass
60' 1.999
1/8:8.775@80.12mph
1/4: 13.707@ 100.07mph
3rd pass
60': 2.458
1/8: 9.433@ 79.52
1/4: 14.38@99.8
4th pass
60': 1.993
1/8: 8.750@ 80.32
1/4: 13.663@ 100.51mph
I was pretty shocked on how strong the car ran. It has the Firehawk mods like the Catback and Ramair. The only other mods are MSD Blaster Coil, Airfoil, and 3200 Revmaxx Stall. The car was on Street tires with 32lbs of air in them.
I plan on some 3.73's, Headers, and a Drag Radial tire and might be able to hit 12's with that! What does everyone think mod wise? Not looking to do Heads and cam except for maybe a LT4 cam and its a Firehawk so I dont want to get crazy with it. Just want a nice 12 second car..

im running almost exactly the same times in my trans am with almost the same mods minus my nitto drag radials and the ignition mods, i have LS1 lid instead of ram air. Funny, your cutting better 60's on your street tires then i am on drags. i hate nittos!!!!
nice times man!

Too much tire pressure imo. I've never run over 28 psi in any of my street tires. Not sure where ATCO is (somewhere south? lol). Up here its been cold lately and my firestone Firehawk SZ50EP tires are like plastic - i've been driving with the rears at 22-24psi just to get around town (even on freeway drives). These tires are garbage to begin with so I don't care if they wear funny, etc.
I remember years ago somebody told me a trick about staggering the psi between the driver and passenger side rear tires... I can't recall exactly but one of the rear tires tends to get more power than the other simply due to the revolution of the engine/drive train and how its transfered through the differential. Anyways, I think the idea was to give the rear tire that gets more power, more grip by lowering that tires psi more than the opposite. I "think" its the rear passenger tire that receives more power, so you'd keep that tire 2+ psi lower than the driver side rear. I THINK
Anyways, I still think 32psi at the strip is a lot. Try 28 next time and work your way down. Although with street tires I realise there's only so much benefit you will squeeze out.
not bad times at all for a more or less stock LT1 firehawk. The converter is the bigger helper - were you getting any wheelspin on your launches? (i'd imagine YES). Also, exactly what type and size street tire are you running?

Thanks.. Your stall is also a 3500. Ours is a 3200. dont know what differance that makes.

got people telling you to get your 60 down too...1.9's on street tires is probably better then they can pull. I cant do it on nittos half the time im around a 2.015.

From his signature the OP obviously knows what to expect from a bolt-on LS1, which admittedly is quicker than his LT1 car (probably had more bolt-ons too I bet) .....but the costs involved are huge for a swap compared to him keeping the LT1 and making it even better.

x2 for not messing up a real LT1 Firehawk with an LS1 conversion. As much as I like the LS1 lid conversions people are gaining 1-2 tenths with, I won't consider cutting the radiator support of my SS. My gf's 95 Z28 will be going under the knife for that mod though.
Besides the rarity of the Firehawk, swapping in an LS1 just isn't "vastly cheaper" like he said. (If you think I'm wrong, prove it with prices, part numbers, etc.) I already have a running 36K mile LS2 out of an 06 GTO sitting in a crate that's factory rated at 400HP/400TQ. I thought about swapping it into an LT1 car, but after checking into everything required it would cost more to swap it in to gain what......40-50 rwhp maybe?.....than to build up the LT1....AND THAT'S NOT INCLUDING THE COST OF THE LS2 I already had. (Caps for emphasis, not yelling.) The LS2 will be wearing a victor jr, L92 heads, 750 Holley, and a stout HR and residing in an older chevy in the future instead.

Wasn't trying to lead the thread off topic, it just was annoying that someone suggested an LS swap for your car as vastly cheaper. Seems that alot of LS guys like to come into the LT forum and try to act all superior and often just prove they don't really know jack. I'm not an LS1 hater at all. I think it's a great platform with definate advantages (thus any idiot can run well with one.) But that doesn't mean the LT1 is "ancient" or dead technology.
Congratulations on your times OP with what is essentially a stock car still. The only real mod is the stall, and since you ran on true street tires, it may have hurt as much as it helped. I bet with some traction you will drop a couple tenths without any other mods.

and saying it looked slow where in reality those times are right on par with a factory SLP Firehawk and an assumed non-professional race car driver. his #599 in White w/ red leather is 1of 20 crazy rare &, not everyone knows what a Firehawk is
edit! edit! edit! (http://firehawkowners.com/gallery/v/firehawk/1995/0599)
why do you have a t/a bumper on your '95 Formula Firehawk?

LPE makes a baby cam thats a bit bigger than the Lt4 and alot better
Also has a factory like idle
The classic small crane cam is also a nice choice
Theirs also a few other options out there
I really wouldn't waste my time messing with a strand lt4 cam
