Way too big for a for stock LT1.

I would take it back out asap, that cam is better suited for LT1's with head's and better bottom end.

That cam is WAY too big. You'll have almost zero usable power. You would also need some SERIOUS valve springs to handle that cam. I won't even ask what you have as you should pull it out ASAP.

But it will run and sound good! lol. I agree its way to big for a stock motor. The xfi280 works great for my daily driver 383 with le3 heads and full Bolton's. I wouldn't even do a 292 in my 383 even though its much more suited for it. If I ever swap cans ill be calling up le or ai for a custom grind.

If I where you I'd take that out a look for a cc503. Its much better for your basically stock motor. You'll see much more usable power out of that than the xfi 292. And it still sounds good!

it will be fine if the converter u bought is a 4000+ and you have 4.10 gears, there was a member on here i believe with a 242/250 112LSA cam in a stock 350 and it only peaked around 6500 i believe on stock heads, thats still a 7000 RPM shift.

my 236/244 in a 396 peaks at 6300, so that gives u an idea of where that cam would be at. id say a 230ish would work well in a hot 350.

That XFI292 is indeed a big cam. I have the XFI280 in my 383 with AFR heads and the duration is only 230/236. You’d need some head work for sure to make that cam work. Also, exactly which springs are you running? Hopefully NOT the springs comp cams specifically recommends in their catalogue, b/c those springs are not strong enough.

For the record, the one step below XFI280 is a very streetable (extremely I’d say). I’d actually be curious to hear how the bigger 292 acted.

*** I wouldn’t even attempt to fire up that engine without a proper tune beforehand. A stock LT1 PCM is going to have a hard time making sense of that cam, bigger cubes, and especially whatever non-stock fuel injectors are in there.

Yeh its too big of a cam but better then yanking it out your better before you start driving it is to pull the heads off and either port them or buy a set of ported heads. You need more compression and heads that will flow enough for that big of a cam and work half decent. IMO i think and what was already stated a cc503 is a much better choice if you dont have the coin to put a set of heads on the car. It will work a heck of a lot better and make just as much power and you will be able to use it.

We see these threads all the time with people wanting to throw big bump sticks in there stock engine and thinking its going to be a beast... WRONG! May sound like a race car but will be a dog on the street.

You have two options to go with here its your call in the end.
