Default Cam Thoughts

Alright so I want to put a cam in. Im not sure what type of cam I want. I do know I dont want to spend a lot of money but i dont want to spend to little. I have been looking in the the Hotcam. But i have heard from people its really not worth the money. I have 53,000 miles on my lt1. Any suggestions? Im looking for more of a street drivability and it is my DD.

Nothing wrong with Hotcam for daily driver. Its a mellow cam and makes decent power. If you have all the bolt-on's done you can notice a good gain with it.

How much power are you looking to make, and how much you plan to spend?

To make that power with decent valve train prepare to spend $1200 +

You can also look up sponsor website for the cam's they offer.

For a "good" cam swap i would go NSA

-spring kit or (spring, locks, retainers, seats, valve seals)
-1.6 rr or 1.7rr
-ARP 7/16 rocker arm stud
-guideplates
-chromemoly pushrods
-lifter

Your not going to get 350 with a hotcam. You'll need something big.

I put 360rwhp on a Dynojet with an M6, thru a 12 bolt, and I have all the boltons. My stock heads are also ported & I have a mailorder tune.

It's not 100%. At least not 100% of what you may or may not need.

I think it's missing the timing chain for one. Been a while since I looked.

I would look into something like a CC503. Lloyd Elliot or Advanced Inductions will also make a great cam for your stock heads/bottom end motor. I'd pick like a 228/232 on 110 LSA and .580 ish lift. More duration than that wont be ideal for your bottom end and less duration likely wont make the most power. They may suggest something slightly smaller, but I'd want something that size..

For a budget.. You can find cheap valvesprings on ebay for up to .600 lift I think, one of forums cam guide has a link to cheap ones also. Proform 1.6's or comp magnums on ebay well under 200. With those miles, there's a chance you can reuse your lifters, but new ones can also be had on ebay for around 100. I would buy a push rod length checker (like 25 shipped) so you can ensure the right length. Most brands will be fine in the right length and application, just shop around.

Hate to press in but-
What is the cc503 like to drive with stock heads? Is the torque curve significantly increased over the stock cam low down? Like, how would it be to drive around on a regular basis if you're not spinning the car up to 6k.
