I was going to order a Lloyd Elliot cam but my friend is selling his Hotcam with springs for $200 and considering I was going to leave the bottom end stock because of financial reasonings i figured it might be a better route. So basically I'm asking is there going to be a decent power gain with a hotcam? Or should I stay with Elliots custom ground

Thats what I was thinking, but maybe i should just go with LE when i do a full motor overhaul. If i get his "DD" cam then i wont want to use it with the new motor. Not sure what to do, also i wont need bigger injectors with the hotcam. Im trying to stick to a budget right now

I ran 12.5x n/a with one a few years back...it works good but Id rather use a LE IMO it will make more power

Have a hotcam at the moment, I like it. It is for sure a noticeable difference over the stock cam. Sounds like you would be buying two cams no matter which way. Maybe the LE cam would have more resale value down the road though.

Have one in my 93 for the last 6 years or so. Its alot better than stock but with the knowledge I have now I would pick an LE today. I got it for like $50 at the time and I knew I was going to have one T/A with great manners and one T/A for the track. It does sound good for what it is. The hotcam can run rally good numbers if the engine is setup right.

I actually purchased the LT4 hotcam kit from Summit or Jegs, cant recall now which vendor but it sounded pretty nice and is way better than stock for sure but if your going to go through all the work then I would go a different route because like most your always gonna want more. I started with a LT4 hotcam and then went to a cc 306 which is even better and now I'm getting ready to change that out for AI head/Custom cam setup. I here nothing but good things from LE and I have spoken to him a few times on differnet setups and that guy does his homework. He even has good advice about other setups that arent even his cam's or parts. He's not there to just sell you stuff, you know!!!! From personally experiance I liked the LT4 hotcam for a short amount of time but had to have better shortly after and with all the work that goes into doing the swap I would go straight for the LE setup. Just my 2 cents though

It was in my old motor, I was happy with it. It drove like stock but ran hard. I was on a budget when I did it and couldnt afford anything else. It is the biggest bang for the dollar, but if you can swing a few hundred more I would for sure go with LE or another custom grind.

If you're stuck on a strick budget then the Hotcam will give you a nice gain for that price. If you have the money to spend then go with the other.

I cant tell that Ive lost any fuel economy but I didnt do any calculations. Its really good on gas.

Locked up I averaged between 18-19 with mine on rd trips, of course in town 12-15.

Been running it for 7 yrs now, I'd say it was a pretty big gain over stock, needs good tuning to get all the power put of it. Got my tune from pcmforless, it was dead on.

Stock heads? Bump the compression and improve the quench by running a thinner head gasket........the Hotcam will like that. Also install that cam at a 106 or 107 ICL rather than the "drop-in" 109 ICL. It was designed for a road-racing (high rpm) powerband, thus the recommended lesser ICL to give it some more low end punch.

If you are on a budget, that $200 will be well spent. I loved my hotcam - definite difference that you can feel over stock. I still got around 26mpg on the highway. Made 330rwhp with Mac mids.

i agree. Its not the most powerful cam but it sure does drive good. has a good power increase over stock. Very reliable. Your not gonna break any speed or HP records with it but i love it. It has enough pwer to have fun with on the street. Been in my car for about 30,000 miles. still runs great IMO.

Hmmmm, this talk of the hotcam being ok, I might just have to slide one in while I'm doing an opti change, my main concern is the mpg, I love the fact that I can cruse down the freeway with my tops off at 80mph and still get 25-26mpg. I'm not ready for a gas hog again.

Which would you guys perfer though, the hotcam or the cc503 for a dd cam?
