Default LS1 lid swap is easy

Started and finished the swap this afternoon. Easy. Did it a little different than I have seen done, by using the old radiator shroud and bolts. Shitty cell phone pics.

Before

Mocking up lid

Cutting lid so the inlet faces the throttle body more.

Cut the frame to fit the filter. Used a 4 1/2 inch cutting wheel and it was like cutting butter. Same with the hood but I didnt get any pictures of that.

Fernco coupling on the throttle body. Reused old radiator shroud.

Fitting in the filter

Done

Drilled holes for the IAT sensor and opti vent

It hits the hood a little bit, you can feel a little bulge when it is closed, but it holds the filter tight against the lid so I am fine with it. Next up is to fab up some sort of ram air effect from the front, then test it in the spring.

Total Cost:
Used SLP lid $50
Fernco 3" to 3" coupling: $7
K&N filter: $64
Beer: $10

Tools used
Hacksaw
Sawzall
Cutoff wheel
Drill

So, you just flopped the air filter down on top of the radiator? Slamming the hood on the lid holds it together?
