Default What Optispark is best???

Hey all,

I have decided to replace my optispark, since it took a crap on me a couple days ago...

Whats best?

I heard AC Delco/OEM was best, and then I was told to go MSD?

Is there really a big difference?

I also plan on Electric water pump... Will I notice a difference in power?

Thanks,

Kyle

Here you go...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACF-1104032/

MSD is not all it's cracked up to be. I'm running a Delco opti in my M6, with an MSD cap & rotor kit. I wouldn't buy the MSD cap & rotor again, though it's a decent product. Since mine is spline drive and non-vented, I wanted the venting that the MSD kit offered. Now I know how to mod my spline drive optis for venting & beefing up the rotor, so I don't need a $155.00 cap & rotor kit.

Other aftermarket optis will work. However, how long they work is still in the data gathering stage. Some folks have had good luck with various aftermarket units, many have not.

I think Im gonna go with AC Delco...

Is an electric water pump really worth it? Or should I just save the money and get a re-manufactured one?

Is there anything specific I should do when Installing the opti, so I can ensure it wont fail soon after install?

The best Optispark is one that has been removed from an Lt1 and made into a trophy

But ACDelco is what I'd use of I was still running one.
I didn't have trouble with the MSD, but it wasn't anything amazing either.

We're the premier value priced aftermarket vendor for them. If you can stomach having to use ebay\email for support.

My Chandler unit is still going strong. Have several buddies with them and going strong also. Went through 3 GM opti's before I went Chandler!

No just the whole unit. I've thought about it, but I'm not sure many people would be interested in buying them for say $45 when you can get the whole unit for $89.

Thanks for the props. Like I said, we know that some units can show up DOA given the volume, but its a very low percentage and we stand behind our product. Also the email\ebay messages thing gets some people all red in the face but we do what we can to hit the right price point and service levels. The really surprising thing I've been hearing the last couple months is that GM units aren't GM units anymore. I think they might be made in the same factory but I have no proof since GM uses its own sourcing company overseas.

Hi my friend

I would like to know how its your chandler opti experience until today august 2013, i receive my performance billet unit recently to my 1994 z28 camaro, i check details of the opti very deep, my first impression its the unit use msd optical disc and lens, the cap its ok but not to close tight, i need to open and get out 1 oring than does not fit, i put the loctite blue to rotor, the rotor looks and msd, well i try to install this week but i really appreciatte your comments, i am at southamerica and believe me i don't want make any return, thanks

Can you elaborate on why the MSD never gave you any problems but wasnt amazing? I mean what defines a great opti from a normal one? Lol I wouldnt expect any performance gains from an MSD vs an AC Delco or Delphi one. Just reliability.

You can buy opti parts seperatly at parts stores...And its the best bang for the buck imo. (I've put some together for under $200) Even a %100 new unit can poop out after some miles.
I run the delphi opti unit and an old accel cap and rotor, vin P.
24x kits can be put together for under $600 if you shop around enough.
Forgot to mention the msd units often have signal issues and not worth $500.
Just my 2 copper.
