Default difference between 8.5 & 8.0 wires

What's the difference between the 8.5 mm wires and the 8.0 wires?

Just wondering because I saw a set on jegs for the 8.0 mm wires for 24.99

Nothing other than the size really. Maybe a little more burn resistant if the insulation is thicker? I have had 8.5mm and 8.0mm and never actually looked at them side by side. I usually run MSD 8.5 super conductors though just because they've treated me well and I've (in my limited experience) seen less issues with them than some of the other common wires. YMMV

It's my understanding that the insulation is thicker, but not the "wire" itself.

exactly.........thickness is important but not th emost important..........the electrical properties of the wire is what is important......resistance (ohms) per foot......the wires ability to reduce and block EMI and of course the wires durability in a harsh enviroment.......

One barely fits using the stock routing and the other is a complete pain in the *** and are at higher risk of burning since the amount of space available to route in stock locations is limited from the oversized insulation. Absolutely not necessary.
