Default What mild cam for a street/sometimes strip car.

I have a 1996 camaro z with cai, intake elbow, pacesetter long tubes, highflow cat, cutout, and nitto 555 tires.

I am wanting a really high 12 or a really low 13 car. I am going to be getting a matching stall with my cam. I can get a hotcam kit for $400, But I don't want a hotcam.

So I'm leaning toward a cc503, but need help deciding. Somebody reccommended me this: http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp%20Cams/249/07-466-8/10002/-1?CT=999

So, if you have a cammed lt1 and are liking the power, let me know! I like alot of low and midrange power. I know there are other choices and are looking for advice. I don't want to do an le setup because I don't have enough money to upgrade my rear and tranny. It's a 4l60e btw.

Thanks!

MaVN

what kinda converter are you running? You can make more torque than stock and still gain 30hp more up top, just depends where you want the peaks to occur.

i'd look at getting an edge converter. with filter, fluid and cooler you'll be around 700 bucks.

That's just what I want to spend on the cam stuff. I'll spend another 600-800 on the converter. Any ideas on what cam?

With that budget you aren't leaving yourself enough $$$ for the NECESSARY parts. A cam swap is an easy $900+ with tuning done properly.

Read the cam sticky at the top of the forum. Lots of good info.

Goals are easy to hit for a stalled/cammed car.

You could probably hit those goals stall only.

With that budget and low goals, you could grab a hot cam kit from like Summit or something ($600ish, but doesn't quite come with everything)

Also, like it was said - you will need tuning.
Go with a popular setup and you can get a cheaper mailorder tune (under $200) compared to dyno tuning with a custom setup.

What is missing in the hotcam kit?

A cam is overkill for your goals. Bolt ons and traction in decent air is all you need.

The hot cam is probably the only way in your budget to cam it.

Luckily for you, the hot cam will help you surpass your goal performance wise.

In other words, get the hot cam.

I run a XE 224/230 and I daily drove it for 2 years with no problems. Good power. (I think it is the CC503 now?)

That is what I'd go with.

Summit's LT4 Hot Cam Kit is like $650 and comes with cam, springs, rockers, etc.

You should still get things like pushrods, timing chain, lifters, tune, gaskets, etc.

So its a bit cheaper, but not sure about quality of the parts.

By the way, specs on the cam are 218/228 .525/.525 112 lsa.

Not gonna post the link, but you can find it on summit pretty easily, or just PM me for link.

LPE 211/219
As stated prior bolt ons w/3600 stall will put you in the 12s in good air.
Adding a cam like i mentioned will defininately get you into the 12s with good tires/traction of course
