yes it will swap over and bolt in directly. However, I can't tell you if you will clear the exhaust on your ls1 car or your front accessories. My lt1 car has a LS rack in it and the angle on the LS rack is more pronounced toward the driver's side.

A seal kitis like $20. How hard is it to re-seal?

Are there any aftermarket ones that would be better?

They will definitely both interchange like said but not sure if the LT1 rack clears the LS1 accessories or manifolds... LS1 is angeled out towards the outside of the car more than LT1. If you do try the LT1 rack you also need to use the steering shaft from that rack which is a downgrade from the nice LS1 piece. All in all the LS1 rack and shaft are a nicer unit to have, shaft is better, rack helped with clearance for headers etc..

he can still use the ls1 rack with the lt1, his steering wheel will be clocked wrong. You won't be able to get it straight with the rack and have equal turn to turn.

You can reindex the ls1 input shaft to make it work with lt1 rack. It's a better upgrade over the lt1 even with the rag joint eliminator.

find a used one at a yard, cheaper than buying one.
