Default 4l80e

I was given a 4l80 out of a van from a 90s model Chevy......u can see where I'm going with this. I know they're stronger than the stock 4l60s. I was wondering if anyone has done the swap or what is involved.
i know theres a ton of information on doin a swap with an ls series 4l80, but this is an older model, havent seen anyone do it.
thanks in advance

Going to have to use a stand alone control system for the 4L80E.

I had a 4L80E with a manual valve body in my car for a while and really liked it. My rearend gear was a little too low for it and when I pulled the engine, I went back to the 6 speed. It was nice nailing the throttle and not have to worry about missing a gear though. BMR actually makes a conversion crossmember for a 4L80E into a LT1 car.

This looks like a pretty informative thread:

Here is an old thread with pictures, but it may still help:

i appreciate the effort put into looking for these threads but thats for an ls style 4l80e.
the one i have acquired is a direct bolt on to a 350 block, not an ls series.
there totally different animals.

My 4L80 has been awesome since day one. Stock out of the yard it had zero problems. Threw in a Transgo FMVB kit and ran that bad boy hard. When I pulled it apart for a rebuild everything looked cherry, I should just left it alone.

Now it's got a Jake's Performance FMVB and it's even better, shifts faster and firmer. I'd talk to Jake if you want to build it. I had Vigilante build me a converter for it, using a standard flexplate, nothing fancy. First converter was a little tight but worked, this new 4000rpm+ one is stupid. I built my first 4L80 cross member from a factory M6 one, but eventually bought the BMR one. I'm running a B&M Mega shifter, I have lockup and overdrive. Trans-brakes are also available for them..

PS Any 4L80 will work, they are not totally different animals.

But it might be easier with a early version where the cooler lines exit close to the 4L60e location . The newer versions have one cooler line much farther back on the case and will make it a tighter fit .

There are variations with the earlier vs. later 4L80E's..when you re-build them there is a wiring upgrade for the 94-up. (I beleive that's the year)
