Default My 383 refresh is finally done...any guesses on power?

383 LT1 build:

Forged eagle crank
Forged eagle H-beams (5.7")
Speed pro forged flat tops with coated skirts(-5cc)
New rings and bearings
.046 quench
ARP everywhere
Ported LT1 heads with stainless 2.02/1.65 backcut valves and 52cc chambers angle milled to 22 degrees
flow numbers (flowed without a backcut valve)

lift CFM
Intake
.200 145
.300 203
.400 248
.500 269
.600 272

Exhaust
.200 122
.300 163
.400 182
.500 194
.600 198

Comp cams XFI 230/236 cam with all supporting hardware
Intake has been ported to match heads
58MM throttle bldy
Electric water pump
#30 SVO injectors
LTs, ORY, Borla
All backed up by a stock T56 (for now) with 4.10 gears

My compression is a little up there since there's 52cc chambers, but the dyno shop is pretty sure I can get away with 91+an octane booster or 93. I haven't seen any evidence knock on the plugs or scan tool, so I think I'm ok until I get to the dyno later this fall for a good tune. Any input on power estimates? Advice?

Through a 6-speed I'd guess somewhere around ~375-385whp...

...and what is your final compression ratio?

static is about 12.8:1...I would love to put it on E85, but we don't have any here in western KS (closest pump is 68 miles away)...If worst comes to worst, I'll just blend some 91 with race fuel

My guess is 400 even WHP. I too am in the process of building a 383, I'm aiming for 420 whp with mine, getting Ai ported 200cc heads with a lunati 60122 cam. Good luck!

I'd say 420 - 430 rwhp?

Sweet! Anything over 400rwhp I would be happy with, and hopefully some good track times after I build the trans. Hopefully within the next month or so I can take off work and get to the dyno.

damn i would have thought it would have been higher since my 383 makes 503 to the wheels is it really that big a difference betwen 383 tl1 and an 383ls1? i mean i know the ls1 has better heads and intake but damn almost 100 rwhp.....

From what I understand stock LS6 heads flow just as good or better than ported LT1 heads. For an LT1 to make 500rwhp your looking at aftermarket castings, a single plane intake, and a 24x conversion.

Look at your cam and heads compared to his baby cam and modest ported stockers. I bet those ported LS6 heads flow over 300cfm intake...and his touched up stockers flow 270. Plus I'm sure the exhaust port totally blows them out of the water too. Add the much larger cam and you are bound to make a lot more power then his mild 383.

With similar parts the gap is a lot smaller then 100hp, even though the LS1 will always have the advantage due to the far superior heads. Ported stocker LS1 heads are as good or better then most aftermarket LTx stuff.

For a mild 383 n/a, Ai 200cc, ported Ai intake and supporting mods what size of injector its better? #30 or #42 ? I have Accel #30 but dont know exactly on moving to the next size. Any recommendation? And good luck for your project and everyone planning to build some. Bye

You have alot more compression then mine but your heads are holding u back a little bit. I made 443rwhp up in Wichita. I suggest going to SRE in Wichita for the dyno tune. They picked up about 25rwhp from my mail order tune and they are awesome ppl to work with. My guess is you are around 400 with a good dyno tune

I just called them yesterday about getting it dyno'd. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm shooting for later october since I tend to work alot and can't get a day off without a month in advance. This will give me a little time to get my suspension aligned, pinion angle checked, etc to make sure everything is in perfect working order before it goes.
