Default Coolant leak behind motor

I assume this is the intake gasket? I dropped the transmission on my car to fix the clutch (ty spec), and i noticed coolant in my bell housing. finally found where my coolant was going... Is this a common problem on our cars? I thought it was but I don't see anything after a few searchs. Thanks!

No coolant passages thru intake, most likly the steam pipe connections top back of heads, reach around and feel for wet spots

You need 4 of these or their equivalent in an oil or a/c seal (cheaper).

Awesome. Thank you. I have a hook-up at the local GM dealer so I'll make a phone call.

Your site is awesome. Thanks for all the info!

I replaced my whole steam pipe set up with fittings and some hosing, its actually a little smaller then it needs to be due to my mistake in sizes but no leaks and still works like i charm, i beliece i either used some teflon tape or rtv to sal up the fittings, i'm leaning more towards i used rtv

ThoR294, don't want to "rain on your parade" but your coolant leak might NOT be the steam pipe connections either. Your problem might be the welch plugs located in the very back of the engine block ....... inside of the bell housing mounting area.

If the steam pipe is leaking, the coolant generally runs down the outside of the transmission bell housing. If you have coolant actually INSIDE the bell housing ..... it's usually one of the rear welch plugs that's leaking.

The coolant is visible on the slave cylinder, and it is wet up on the outside of the bell housing. the car sat without a transmission for a long time, so it probably ran down from the steam pipe. I had the trans out and the freeze plugs were dry

Good to know! Four (4) new steam pipe seals like Shoebox has shown you above, and ........ you should be ...... good to go!

I am excited. The car has been a decoration in the driveway for almost 2 years. It is almost back up to speed... minus the tree damage from sandy on the headlight/fender

Thanks for the info!
