Default prothane +20 hp -steering

So, last oil change I noticed my saggy stock motor mounts were finally bottomed out and the engine was laying on the K member.
So, like a good ls1tech nerd, I searched for the best motor mount upgrade. I found prothane, which everyone was r
aving about and ordered a pair. I installed them today. I couldn't help but notice that the passenger side mount needed to be hacked up significantly for the stock bolts to fit back in. This probably has something to do with that side being a "universal" sbc mount.

Anyhow, after cursing and bleeding for a few hours, I got them installed and went for a romp. I couldn't help but notice that my cheap *** headers were now interfering with the rotation of the steering shaft as they never had before. So, using both hands on the wheel, I guided the turd to the nearest straightaway. Once I planted the throttle, I immediately found all of the hp I had been missing over the last month or so!
It appears my hypothesis about grounded motor mounts causing false knock is correct. I have been riding the knock sensors for a month and it feels good to be off of them, even if I can't steer anymore!!!

Good night.

^^ I know but I'm awaiting my next paycheck

I know it would be easier to do them while doing headers, but oh well

I get too do this to my car when I get time. Ive been putting it off but it really needs to be done. I hope my headers dont hit my steering shaft (ebay headers) like yours did after I raise the engine up a couple of inches. Im actually worried about my Y pipe clearing the floor pan after the engine is raised up so much. Its sitting all the way down like you said yours was.

Haha. Nice story. I would have recommended solid mounts though.

My car is already rough, the ride get any smoother with my suspension so some people don't care. Plus I have other cars to drive.
