Nothing wrong with most of the parts in an Ebay Turbo kit, but its widely recommended to NOT run the turbo's they come with.
2K won't really go anywhere, even for a reliable NA build.

Assuming set up properly... in order of cost and need of know how.. Nitrous$, head/cam$$, supercharger$$$,turbo$$$$
And no you don't just slap a turbo on and done..it still requires many other things to be right

eBay intercooler kit 125.00
Oil lines 45.00
Tap and line fittings 40.00
T4 flanges 60.00
Exhaust piping 50.00
Exhaust flanges 20.00
Two U bends 50.00
Used MP70 350.00
Bov $59.00
Tial waste gate 210.00 (can buy cheaper)
Oil scavenger pump $180.00
30lbs Injectors 125.00
225 fuel pump 110.00
Used cam/ springs 200.00
Then a tune.
One will need to know how to fabricate and weld to keep it below 2k, might have forgotten a few small items but 2k is do-able. I will let you know once I get the turbo in the mail and fab this up in the next few weeks what the final cost was.

Well if you wana go NA
Le2 heads
Le2 cam
ported intake
52mm TB
42lb injectors
Kooks long tube into true duels
Tune tune tune
Going Fi
ebay turbo kit
Custom turbo cam
Stock heads
Stock TB
meth kit
Run 5-7 psi
Many people out there are running the ebay turbos with no issues and some with issues. Im sure if you used the ebay kit you would want more in the long run and would sworn the turbo out anyway so just get a bigger better turbo anyway the t60 os small and will hurt top end
Now either way you go the fuel system will need some help with a bigger or better flowing pump.

Well, first thing he might wanna look into is, is the car set up to handle the power? if the answer is yes, then N/A or Supercharged.
N/A
LE Heads, cam, intake porting
Comp Cams Ultra Pro Mag rockers and Hi Tech Pushrods
1-3/4 or 1-7/8 Long Tube Headers
Dual Exhausts
58mm throttle body
New Opti (MSD etc) or LTCC conversion
Injectors
Super:
You can pretty much upgrade the fuel system
Upgrade your ignition
Toss on headers
Use an intercooler
So, N/A itll be a slightly lopey cam and its gonna scream
or procharged itll idle like stock, wont rev as high but will make a lot of power down low.

only one person has mentoned springs in this thread. I agree with the head/cam combo. Contact LE or AI and they can make something for your setup. But youll need to upgrade your top end like springs, pshrods, rockers, etc...

-forged pistons to lower compression - $700 including work to replace them in the original short block.
-P1SC kit including all piping - $1,500 back in 2003
-tune - $400
-42# injectors - $150
Still on the original fuel pump (surprised it has not already gone out after 16 years) and would like to get a nice cam with some aftermarket heads to hopefully make 500hp. But overall, I'm happy with a little over 400hp especially with the amount of money and time I have into it! Your friend can easily attain 400hp if he has a little patience and can perform the work himself.
