he will need a self aligning rocker. if the lifter are low miles he could reuse them. he should also get the proper springs for the cam he is going to run.

I installed a cc503 about a year ago, here's what you want:

- 7/16 NSA 1.6 Scorpions (or whichever brand you want)
- 7/16 ARP studs
- Comp Lifters
- Comp 918 Springs
- New valve spring locks,seats,seals
- Trickflow hardened pushrods
- Trickflow guideplates

Have fun!

dont get self aligning rockers. Blackthunders list is good. Get any 1.6 NSA rockers and trickflow guideplates.

the stock stud is 3/8 but 7/16 is more stable and new studs are a direct drop in.

Follow blackthunder's list, except go with OEM lifters (LS7s). I'd recommend the Comp Pro Magnums though.

I would do new pushrods for peace of mind... They need to be hardened if you're going to use NSA rockers.

If the heads have never been off, or if you're pulling them to do the springs (you don't need to) and you're installing them back with no change in gasket thickness, stock sized PRs are fine (7.2").

You don't need to pull the heads to change springs, of course. Just rotate the engine so the cylinder you're working on has the piston high enough to keep the valves from dropping while you change springs.

Self aligning are perfectly fine for that cam, this isnt a 23x/24x cam spinning above 6500. Some Comp Pro Mags and LS7 lifters will work just fine. Also the 306 isnt too big for stock heads, it just has lazy lobes so not a lot of people like to run it. LT1s respond to more duration, not so much lift

Hmmm....I just stepped up my cam from a lunati voodoo 60121 to a 60122 (231/239) and still have self aligning Comp Pro Magnums; is that going to cause issues at higher RPM's as opposed to NSA rockers? Somebody elaborate on this. Also, are hardened pushrods required for SA rockers or are stock ones OK?

OP, do NOT advise your buddy cheap out on rockers...trust me I know from experience LOL. Both summit and jegs have hardened pushrods; can't beat their service or shipping.

You don't need hardened pushrods for self aligning rockers since self aligning rockers don't use guide plates. The rubbing of the pushrods on the guide plates is why you would want hardened pushrods.

Personally, I like the non-aligning rockers and guideplates better on my Stock Elim motor. I felt I got better lash readings since I don't use narrow feelers. Now that we can go to roller rockers, I am already set up.
