Going to do the 24x Conversion ... Few Questions to Ensure Success
Hi Guys,
I have a 1995 Camaro Z28 that I did a a 383 build some 7 or 8 years ago. Build consisted of Ported Stock LT1 Castings and a Fairly Mild Cam which made 405 RWHP and 430 RWTQ. Since then it seems as if I've had to replace the opti way, way too often. Either from the additional power or from (and the most likely culprit) not driving the car as often as I should.
So, I've decided to ditch the opti and go the 24x route ...
I want to make sure that I have everything that I need prior to starting this update because I don't want to eat up too much of my garage time.
So, from what I've read I'll need the following:
-EFI Connections 24x LT1 Conversion Package for Single Row Timing Set
(Includes: 24x crank reluctor for single row timing set, 24x crank sensor, cam sensor, cam sensor housing, 1x cam reluctor, and an EFI Connection 24x throttle body ID plate)
-EFI Connections Custom Wiring Harness (will more than likely go this route to save time and face)
-96/97 Timing Cover
-96/97 Hub
-96/97 Crank Key
-96/97 Knock Sensor
-LQ9 Coils (Round with Heat Sinks)
-Shorter Plug Wires (Will probably pick up the MSD 3304 kits and cut existing to fit)
-Coil Brackets for my Center Bolt LT4 Valve Covers (Will more than likely fab these up myself)
-2001-2002 LS1 PCM (GM# 12200411) with Re-tune
- LS1 PCM Mount
-Antifreeze / Distilled Water
-Water Pump Gasket Set / Halomar
-Timing Cover Gasket Set
-Hub Puller Tool
What else am I forgetting?
Thanks!

Question for you ... When adding this new wiring harness ... does any of the existing fuse panel fuses or wiring need changing or does everything work the same? It's been so long since I rewired the LT1 after dropping in the 383, I can't even recall how all that ties in ...

List looks good, yep get the ls1 PCM bracket, it goes right in place then.
I used this time to get the Jegs keyed hub and the ASP underdrive damper. Its something you could look into if you want a keyed hub on the cheap.
The harness is plug and play, you don't mess with fuses/relays at all. Only thing in interior is removing your old OBD port and installing the new one and hooking up two plugs I think it was, probably for gauges/hvac? Wire harness install is fast and painless, worse part is getting the damn timing cover off.

I believe that my main issue is that I don't drive the car as frequently as I should ...
It will be nice to let the car sit and jump in and drive and not be wondering when I'm going to get that high rpm miss fire or stumble or shudder ...

Where did you get your ASP underdrive damper? Did you get the Nitride or Regular Crank Pulley?

I don't remember exactly where I got it, but searching for it really quick, this is what it looks like:
Adding those parts won't cause any alignment issues. The hub is the same length as the 96-97 hub. Jegs hub.
I got the full length key at Advanced Auto, they have a multipack for a couple bucks.

Thanks Scott ... I'll add it to the list above ... I believe that I've ran across a pic you posted of Mike's harness ... looked very nice ...
