Default Rpm range???

I had a cam ground by a company in Tacoma wa. I asked for the CC503 224/230@112. What i got was 226/230@111. .540/545. I was looking at the LE 226/232@110 .578/.573. The company said they were only tooled to go .560 which is kinda weird to me. My questions are what is the rpm range for the 226/230 111 that i have in the car now? I figure it is 1900 to 6200 rpm. (i shift @6000) i know i need a 32-3600 stall. And is there any real benefit as far as tearing it down to putting in the LE 226/232? I have a set of 93 374 heads that will be sent to LE next tax time for the full port and polish if that factors into the decision? Thanks for ur input!!!

There is no reason to pull a 226/230@111 for a 226/232@110...they are virtually identical and even assuming the LE cam is using slightly more aggressive lobes and has a bit more lift the performance will be very similar with such a mild cam, we're talking 5-10hp difference tops.

I would think you would need at least 6500 to take advantage of that cam. My buddy shifted his 503 cam only at 6700 to run 11.9x's. Most people with just bolt-ons shift the stock cam @ 6000 including myself.

If people are shifting at 6500 that would be 6700 6800 by the time the trans completed the shift!!! This would not be on a stock bottom end right?

For some it is but others do it all the time. You'll have a low to mid 12 second H/C car when you should be in the 11's. It's ok to short shift, you're just not going to see the full benefit of the cam. The dyno would tell the optimal shift point, meaning the completed shift.

So to get the full benefit of this cam, do u recomend 62,63 with a completed shift of 65,66? Or 6500 staight up on the tach? Its just that since i have been recording my runs and looking at them. I see the higher rpm when i shift and i really dont know which one i should rely on or look at. Before the recording it was set the shift lite and GO!!!!

Hopefully you have the tune for the cam. Just strap it on a dyno and let it rip, it will show where the power is. You can also monitor the a/f ratio although a data log would be best. Then tweak if needed.

I dont have a wide band yet, just a standard autometer guage. I dont put alot of faith in it, but it reads in the stoich range at wot. Kinda lean on cruise at 60. Dyno run is 150$ for 3 pulls and the cant tune a 93. I am working on getting setup for Datamaster logging. I may even get all the burners to tune myself. Big bucks IIRC. in 2 weeks when track opens i am going to go for 6500 on the tach and see what happens. Ha ive got another stock motor.

If its a stock high milage motor. Just pull it & rebuild it, Or build the extra motor & install it. Otherwise youll be doing it a 2nd time!!! Just My 2 cents

This motor has 50k on it. It has been siting in my garage for 6 yrs. I bought the long block for 500$ it is a 96. The stock 93 motor cam out. It had 186k on it. Still runnin 13.48@105.49. So they are both strong. Gonna do LE2 on the origanal motor come tax time. I really wanna supercharge one of them. NEVER LIFT EVER!! MWAAAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

I would be interested in seeing the dyno chart for your buddies motor to see if if his 503 really requires that much RPM. That RPM really seems high and he might have better ETs by bringing it down a little assuming he is needlessly spinning it too high.

I went to the track 1 time with this combo. With a DA of 2300 i tried a few different rpm's. 62,61,59,6,6150 the best run of the day came at 6k. I couldn't really trust the mph on the slip, it was anywhere from 104 to 108. I think there was some inacurracy that day. 104 a couple times really seems to low to trust! I like the 107.91 and 110's myself. Haha There is another session on the 14th i will try again. BTW S10's with V8's are a BLAST!! i have built two B&M supercharged ones. I have played with them for a while then trade them. (no room for good stereo, headers get loosened up quick...always tightening). I traded my last one for the Trans Am i have now. Have fun!!!
