Default Car showing -18* timing...

Looking for some ideas on why a 1996 LT1 Camaro would be reading -18* timing at idle and going to -30 when driving. I know there is no way the car would run and drive like it does now if the timing was truly off as bad as it shows. We did a motor swap, just went to a little built LT1, and the computer started to go weird. Any ideas or thing to try would be helpful.

Thanks,

Chad

Thats pretty close 16 to 18* at idle The max at 3500 needs a little more than 30 though Im sure a tuner like Moe will chime in to give you the best info

How can that be 36° off? What do you think it should read. -18 is 18° advance.

Ok that works I was not sure how that worked in the computer. TDC is 0 and advanced is a negative number correct?

Thanks,

Chad

Different scanners or software may show it with a minus sign or no minus sign. They may call it timing or may call it advance. Either way, the amount is always going to be a negative (BTDC). Your engine cannot run any other way.

Ok thanks guys! I should have have figured that out, but we have had a issue with a motor not talking to the computer with a FAST system so I over complicated it from the start.

Thanks,

Chad
