Default thoughts on scorpion rockers

... exactly as the title says, whats your thoughts on them? I heard about them a lot a couple years ago and now I don't really hear anything about them. I know there is people running them, I just want to know if there a decent reliable piece.

There cheaper then comp pro mags and even Harland sharp from what ive seen

While some people have had success I have also heard some horror stories about the bearing in the trunion coming apart sending dozens of tiny needle bearings through the engine.

You don't hear those types of issues with Comp Ultra Pro Mags, Crane Gold Race rockers, etc. It always pays to get the good stuff the first time around. That way they will be the last set of rockers you'll ever use.

Comp ProMags have been the rocker of choice for throngs of LT1 setups for years.

I have 2 sets in the garage, I've ran the Scorpion race series for the last 5 years and have no complaints.

I googled "scorpion rocker failure" and it showed a lot of trunion failures up to about 2009 but a lot of them said that the issue has been fixed now

I had the bearings start to back out on mine but I caught it in time. I will say that they have excellent customer service and honored the lifetime warranty.

The customer service and lifetime warranty only covers the rockers - not a new engine.

Not a fan. I haven't delt with them in a few years. My last dealings with them they gave me alot of attitude and hung up on me. I wasn't using any profanity I just pionted out to them they where lying to me. They said they had sopken to me on a specific date and I informed them that was inpossible, I was deployed overseas on that date. As I said they hung up on me.

Rocker failure is sometimes more of a installation/misuse issue then the brand of the rockers. Though some like comps, crower are able to take more of the abuse then others. A good buddy of mine ran Scorpion in a high lift, high rpm SBC 327 for 6 years with no problems.

This was my experience:

Took me a while to find all of the needles.
Scorpion sent me a free replacement new rocker and I just sold the set to someone who was willing to take a second chance.

I have had my scorpion rockers for 2 years now. I run a custom cam similar to the 280xfi and spin to 6500 rpm.. No issues whatsoever. Also a co-worker runs them in his dart 427sbf turning 9500rpm with extremely heavy valve springs and high lift on nitrous and high compression for about 4 years now and many many passes and a lot of street miles. No problems.

Holy crap! If we never bought anything that has had a few bad experiences, then we would be back to the stock car.

obviously lots of people have had great experience and a few bad or at least someone they know has...

I have 2 sets of 7/16" stud NSA 1.7's both bought used from members here. One set came off of a very well known car that had problems right after it was "upgraded" from 1.6's. It was posted on here that they were @ fault when after inspection it appears that 2 of them were installed wrong. One has the pushrod cup beat up pretty bad and the other has only a cosmetic flaw. That set came with 2 brand new rockers that Scorpion had sent for replacements under warranty. That car has since went LSx and is doing very well last I heard. I don't want to mention names because mistakes happen to anyone, whether it's building engines or whatever. I just want to chime in that not all reported parts failures (Scorpion rockers in this case) are manufacturer problems.

Cheap and aluminum should never be in the same sentence. I would rather run some comp mags than any budget aluminum rocker. I bet most don't measure or even check the pattern.
