So the LT1 in my 96z has close to 200k miles and in September im going to be rebuilding it. already have a friend (has done it before) thats going to help and he has access to a shop and dyno. when i do this, i want to put in a more aggressive cam and heads as well. any tips for the rebuild or c/h packages?

was talking about heads/cam with my friend and we figured because of the high mileage to just go ahead and rebuild. looking at pistons, piston rings, rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings, all gaskets, and oil pump. it'll be my first so any heads up for any issues/tips would be awesome. (also if i missed anything or if any of that is "unnecessary") the h/c package that i eventually put in will be the full kit as well

Dunno.. before I'd make that decision I'd do a leakdown to see what shape the top and bottom end are in. If you do want to rebuild back to stock CID, for you sake reuse the crank and rods. Nothing wrong with them. Use ARP rod bolts and you will be able to spin it to the moon if you want.

If the cost is less for the stock rods to be resized and if they check out then there's no reason to buy new. If stock rods can handle a big shot of nitrous in engines making north of 450rwhp with stock displacement then they can handle pretty much any N/A heads/cam combo in production today using stock displacement.
