OK, I sort of misspoke, somewhat. I just went down the basement, and opened up the box of lifters and checked all the paperwork that came with them. Actually, there's no mention at all, of any preload settings. Somewhere or other, I heard the mention of 1/8 turn from zero lash, maybe it was on this forum.

However, I did indeed e-mail Comp twice, as I had previously stated, and both times, they told me 1/8 turn past zero lash. The first time probably was to verify the 1/8 turn idea, as I was installing them for the first time, and the second time was probably after I had them installed, and noticed that they're a little "clicky", and I wanted to verify that the 1/8 turn I was initially told was correct. And yes, they are the Comp Rs....



And if anybody is interested in buying a set of Comp Rs, I'd like to sell mine. As far as I know, they're fine, just a little too noisy, IMHO, for a street engine. They have a couple thousand street miles on them.

Feeler gauge for hydraulic lifters? Everyone knows this is not true.
