Default LT1 Trickflow GenX 430hp top end kit question

Seen a few threads about this awhile back and most seemed to agree it was okay but there's better options out there.

Doing my H/C in a month or so and just wanted to check one last time to see if I could find anyone using this kit or knowledge of it that can share there thoughts on it with me.

The car is a 97 Z/28 with 70k miles stock bottom end and has about every other bolt on done. I drive the car on the weekends just cruising around its never been raced or beat on.

Cam spec: @.050 Duration 220 int./227 exh. Lift 0.530 int./0.530 exh. 113 LSA.

Head: Cylinder Head, GenX® 185, Fast As Cast®, Assembled, 54cc CNC Chambers, 21° Valve Angles.

For what it gives vs it's price, it's not worth it. 430 crank hp is only like 350rwhp. An AI190 or 200cc head/cam package or an LE2 package blow it out of the water for less money, giving 400+ rwhp.

I've always heard that they were really good heads if you want to port them, but that would end up costing thousands more for about 15 horsepower.

Go with stock casting heads from one of the reputable porters. Period.

Its all of a matter if YOU want to piece your H/C/ every parts that goes with to replacing, or if you want a kit that is all ready pieced together.

I ran then heads out of box and haf good results. I was running a le cam tho. I ran 7.23@93 mph. I was running a 234/238 cam tho. I wouldnt buy the kit just the heads. Run them ad is for awhile. Then in the future if u want more power send them to le for port job .

These are the type of reply's I expected. I decided on the LE2 package long ago the problem is I am moving and wont have a garage at the new place and the only reputable shop near me will only do the Trickflow package. So I figured I would let them do the work on the car while I'm out fishing. Also was thinking a tamer package may be a little easier on the stock bottom.

However the more I think about it I am most likely going to try to do the work myself and do it how I want. Think my biggest issue will be the front cover gasket.

Thanks for the reply's I appreciate the advise

If that shop will only do a package from a brand they have heard of I would bet they know nothing about lt1s, and I'd hesitate to use them. LE and AI are among the most well known and reputable lt1 vendors, if that shop doesn't know them, they think you have a sbc.

I'd question the shop's overall level of competence with the LT1 platform if they will "only" work the TFS package.

Both AI and LE offer complete turnkey head/cam packages that will make in the range of 460-500 flywheel horsepower, supporting mods and tuning dependent. You can even order one of these packages from AI complete with gaskets and all hardware, ready to bolt up so I really don't see where the TFS kit would have an edge in any way.

Unless you just like to pay more for a setup that will make less power, I'd go with ported factory castings from one of the two mentioned vendors.
