Default In YOUR OPINION: best sounding exhaust for LT1

What is your favorite cat back exhaust for the LT1 F-bodies?

Currently, I have the optional LS1 SS SLP Dual/Dual axle back, welded to a stock LT1 intermediate pipe. I like it. It sounds throaty, without being obnoxious.

I bought a used Borla adjustable cat back. It sounds great under power, but it's a little too loud just cruising around town. Too much drone. I'd imagine with headers it must be out of control.

So here are some options I'm considering:
-Sell my Borla. Add custom 3" intermediate pipe to current SLP exhaust and complete the Dual/Dual properly.
-Keep Borla. Add adjustable plates or electric cutout in place of plates.
-Mufflex style, custom 3" intermediate, to 3" single outlet muffler with turndown/dump

So what is your favorite cat back, and why?

I have a Mangaflow behind Pacestter Longtubes and a high flow cat. Sounds great at WOT, nice low rumble at idle and no drone while cruising.

From in the car.

On the dyno.

Behind the car.

The Borla sounds very simular to hrcslam's videos, but you can run it straight if you please.
Ive had Flowmaster, Hooker, Dynomax, Borla, Bullets and a few off brand "turbo" mufflers. The Borla with longtubes a cam and some compression really sound nice.

Sounds pretty awesome.

Off topic, but that video of you revving your car and watching oil pressure, that is with straight grade SAE 50?

I have Borla with longtubes and ORY. Aggressive heads/cam setup with 11.2 compression. I like it. It's hellaciously loud and raspy on the wide open setting, but quiet enough to daily drive and much more mellow and smooth with the 3/4 inch plate stuck in it. On either setting the exhaust note raises in tone to a nice SBC high-rev scream when you toe into it. I almost always run the plate with the 3/4 inch hole, perfect blend of aggressive sound and quiet highway cruising and tolerable for the neighbors.

For the record I have a Borla adjustable with an E cutout. On my 383/LE2 heads it was good. On the 350/Le2 heads. I not as crazy about it and I have always wanted to find the time to build this next system below.
This was done a while ago. but I still love the sound of his custom true dual.

Had a B&B, the best sounding exhaust I have heard for a cat back, but it was poorly engineered and all the tube welds cracked and they would not warranty it. Back to the 2OTL which is about half the weight and still sounds great.

GMMG is the BEST! Or if cutouts with a large cam always get me going.

Yes. I have another thread about oil pressure drop during acceleration. 50 weight fixed it.

Borla seems well liked. Perhaps with the smallest plate, it wouldn't be too loud. What is the diameter of the hole in the smallest block off plate?

Anyone know who makes the muffler in the SLP TOTL system? Does it flow well?

Also, anyone know who makes the muffler for the SLP Dual/Dual system? Is it any better or worse than the TOTL system?

I think SLP makes their own mufflers. The 2OTL from what I remember is a perforated tube that Y's internally, 3in to two 2-1/2...you can see right through it.

I just got my Magna flow #15620 on a few days ago. Other than the bog use joint location above the floor fan brace, it went OK. There is an intermittent tub with a pipe and the body too.

For what I have the car for...date nights with the Mrs. and cruise nights with the kids, it's the right amount of hooliganism without irritating the family. I dig the rumble, doesn't drone at 60-70 with 3.23s.

I voted Borla. I've heard Borla, LM1, Flow, Hooker, and Spintech. The Hooker and Spintech sounded good but my friend had Borla on his 6 speed and it sounded really good with headers and ORY. He sold the car and the buyer rebuilt the engine adding an LT4 Hotcam. The car sounded great IMO. Mean as hell but not as brutally loud as an LM1.

Long tubes, true duals. I had bullets that dumped at the axles and it was too loud inside for my taste. I swapped to Hooker aero chambers and they helped a bit and sounded awesome. It would of been perfect if I had extended the true duals over the axle and put the aero chambers there.

No way does Borla sound better than GMMG, btw. If you like loud, GMMG is it.

SLP loudmouth is a good budget exhaust, but raspy. It's the cheap "look at me!!" exhaust.
Borla is good, but for the price you can have GMMG which is better.
Magnaflow, SLP Dual Dual, and SLP 2OTL are great for someone who wants a more refined exhaust that still flows well.
Hooker sounds alright, but isn't stainless which makes me not even consider it.
Corsa is extremely spendy, quality is great, but just sounds "ok" to me for fbody's.
B&B sounds good, but again, is really spendy.
Flowmaster sounds like garbage for these cars.
Mufflex sounds awesome, but is spendy and unnecessarily large in size for 99% of cars its on.

The summit and jegs catbacks are for people who want exhaust, but don't want to pay for good exhaust.

Dumped bullets/true duals can sound amazing (but most don't) and they look cheap to me and have ridiculous in-car noise levels which kills it for a street car IMO.

Hmm my opinion? My car. Single 4" exhaust, dynomax bullet, used the flowmaster merge. Ordered the 4" bends from some diesel site to go over the axle. Way cheaper than mufflex setup.

I start the car about 30 seconds in, ignore the extra racket, seems I have a lazy lifter.....
