Look what I got at the junkyard today
So after having a few buyers back out on buying my firebird I was at the local pick and pull. Well lets just say it was a good thing I walked back in the GM section. Anyways found this.
A poor old 95 Z28... Wait a Minute
Wait this is not stock
Worth the $20
Granatelli Maf in the back seat on a 1le elbow
Look a whole BMR package in the back, Plus a BMR Front bar tho it may be bent. Going to compare to mine tomorrow.
MMM Bilstiens with Ebiach Pro Kit
Something Shiny in There
Hrm this is not supposed to be in a pick an pull
A Couple Extras to help on the cost. Maybe even a new clutch disc. Since my rear main seal took out my 300 mile old spec stage 3.
So this was at 4:30 Friday. I went to Hunt a Miata engine for a buddy since my Daily is a Miata and I can flip stuff in the pick and pulls. Anyways Came back today and pulled everything. Going to open the pan up since it has a dent in it and swap it to my spare. Fun fact pulling a lt1 out of the top SUCKS even when you cut half of the car off. I always go threw the bottom.
So it looks like I need to look into some stuff. It seems the engine was balanced for a flexplate. Great if I ran an automatic, bad because I run a 6spd. Anyways is there a way to tell it if the engine is internal or external balanced? That being said anybody need a yank converter and a sfi flexplate? Hopefully the rest of the engine is good. The front balancer was trash along with the msd Optispark and coil. However it turns over pretty good. I did raid the ecu so I can use that one minus the fact I need to go from a 3.23 to a 3.42 for the speedo and tell it its an Manual car. Plus this has the Ford Redtop injectors. My brother has tunercats, I just need to get it from him and convert to OBD1. I am happy and that fuzzy felling that was gone for a long time with the Firebird which has been nicknamed the Fireturd as its been off the road since 2-21-2009. Maybe 1000 miles and many part failures later I will have a running Firebird again.

You definitely lucked out. Just the Yank is worth a nice chunk of change.
I spy a Blaster coil, MSD plug wires, reman waterpump, the K&N FIPK looks like it may have survived...not a bad haul.

Blaster coil got damaged, Some of the MSD wires made it out two are bad that I know of, Good for spares for my MSD set, The Cai did not make it. Unless you like those extra holes for that fresh non filtered air. Yeah paid $658 out the door. Have over $120 in core charges. Will add that it had a small high torque starter that they forgot to charge me for. So that was a bonus. It was a clean car and someone's baby. However I found the License plate was still in the wrapper. I think someone bought it and did not make it home.

I've done it with the manifolds still bolted to it, lol.
LT1's are neutral on the damper, external on the flexplate. You could just have the flywheel match-balanced to the flexplate.
By the way, good score.
Have you looked into the ports yet, or pulled the timing cover/pan? Those heads look pretty damn clean inside.
Also, what wheels/tires were on the rear?
By the way, good score.

The fun is with bent headers in a car that that is also bent. Thanks for the info on the balance. Should be easy to do by a machine shop.
Intake is ported for the Holly twin 58mm throttle bodys. Exhaust ports are not touched at all. Will probably pull the intake manifold and check it over as well. You it to try and get a cam measurement as well. Oil pan will be coming off to check the bottom end as well.

if the SFI flexplate does not have a weight welded to it, likely a "neutral" aka zero blance. Machine shop can check quickly and then just match a zero balanced FW if harvesting the motor.
given the impact and assume the car was running at the time...a sudden engine stop at high RPM can mean problems internal to motor so a complete tear down or just harvest what you can that is good

That flexplate may not have a weight welded on it.....The flex plate that came on the 383 shortblock I bought from you (Thanks!) a few years back didn't have any weight added to it (zero balanced) therefore I was able to just bolt up a stock LT1 flywheel for my 6spd application.

You know I think the new 4 piece design is the way to go these days.
Yeah this is the 10th one or so one I have seen in the junkyards. Mostly stock cars. May see a muffler that is welded on once in a while. Only seen one t-56 car but it was stripped.
It is opened up in the front for the Holly Throttle Body. Going to pull it off and check everything out.
Going to do that. The oil pan has a dent on it. Going to rip the intake off and check the pushrods out. If anything looks bent enough then the plan is to tear it down and either harvest it for mine.
Sounds good I will check my flywheel for a weight. I had my engine balanced years ago but I think I just saw work on the crank and not the flywheel. Worst case I order a new flywheel as this one has been turned about 4 times now.
That being said. I may go pull the intake tonight. The Yank Stall is a SS3600C5. Going to put it up for sale soon. A few other goodies I pulled include a Magnaflow Muffler with a new over axle pipe I can use for my Corsa and A Power Master XS starter. Going to sell the Magnaflow as I was never fond of the sound. They are way to quiet for my taste and what I want from my Firebirds exhaust. Hopefully the starter is a sign of good things to come in the bottom end.
