Default 2OTL: PItted Corrosion...any suggestions on cleaning

I have been working sporadically on cleaning my 2OTL exhaust I just bought. Unaware I guess that in coastal states SS can experience a phenomenon known as "Pitted" Corrosion. I have been doing quite a bit of research but the 320, Scotchbrite Pad combination I have been using is not working that well..

I was wondering if anyone else has ever had to deal with this and if you have any suggestions on correcting.

You've been using water to wet sand with those products, correct?

When I built my Y pipe out of stainless, I used a stainless brush (not steel) in my angle grinder to clean everything up after all the welding was done. It actually did not look too bad at that point. I probably could have polished it out further with something less aggressive but I did not care because it was under the car.

I just had my stainless headers ceramic coated while they were off the car. Not cheap but they looked better than new when they were done. Maybe you could just get the tail pipes coated?

Maybe post some pics of your progress so we can get a better idea of how it looks now?

Put in a good week in the intermediate pipe and over the axle. Been trying different techniques out on these two to see what works best before I move the the muffler and tips which seem to be in better shape. Still have some issues as some of the deeper pits and rusting do not want to seem to come out. So far have tried scotch brite pads and a combinations of 180 and 320 wet sand by hand (which is a pain in the *** I might add). Here is before and after. Note that it looks good at a distance but close up still issues

Steel Wool would take out the pitting?? I tried steel wool but it did not seem anywhere near as aggressive as any of the other techniques.

What would your suggestions be as I still have the muffler and tips to do?

This is what I am doing except I could not find the dam "Flap Wheel" for a drill so I bought one for a grinder. It seems to be working well at the low grit.

Steel wool will get into the crevices, I used it on my old kawasaki kz1000 and it did wonders.

Hell the only thing I'd worry about looking nice are the tips. Can't see anything else under the car anyway. Only thing that's going to take the pitting away is if you sand the snot out of it.

I understand that all you can see is the tips/front side of muffler. I am actually using the Intermediate Pipe to try various techniques to see what works the best before I just hop on the muffler/tips as I have a tendency to **** things up. So I wanted to see what grits seemed to work best, try different buffing compounds, various different things.

Have you polished it yet? That's where I think you'll see the biggest difference.
