Default Just thought I would share my car.

Its a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (951)

Car caught fire in 2005 so I decided to bastardize the thing.

Iron headed LT1, ported and polished heads, 1.60/2.02 valves, CC306 cam, comp 918 springs, GM dual plane intake, AED Ultra 650 Carb, Mid length headers, dual exhaust, MSD 6AL2 Programmable ignition.

Some things have changed since the pics (will update tomorrow)

Have since installed a new return style fuel system, dual feed lines to carb and aeromotive regulator, new aluminum fuel cell, some changes to cooling system, catch can installed, etc. Things are constantly changing.

Car runs good. Weight is around 2600lbs. Still need some work before it hits the strip so no numbers yet. I did outrun my buddy with a brand new M4 who recently broke the record for highest WHP for "factory tunes" M4. Pulled him really hard but of course his car is way nicer.

Thanks for looking.

That is freakin sweet. Why go with heavy iron heads over aluminum?

To be honest, I was young and dumb when I started. I'm 30 now. Started building the motor first after the fire and I searched on ebay for a LT1. Found a local (ish) guy that had one that he stated came out of a 1997 camaro and it was in pieces. I didn't know better when I bought it being 18. I took it to a local speed shop to have it rebuilt and they recommended doing all the the work to the original heads. Fast forward 11 years and now I'm an ASE master tech that was a shop foreman since 23 and now work for a huge R & D company for fuels and oils, I realize all that was stupid and I should of saved all my money and just bought an aluminum head. I'm in the process now of actually looking to replace the heads with a set of aluminum heads.

I like the way the exhaust looks shooting from the sides in the idle video.

The exhaust is minimal at best. Very loud under acceleration but pretty smooth when cruising.

Did you ever have the heads converted to screw in rocker studs while it was apart or just leave them as pressed in?

Yes the heads do ha e screw in studs. Comp 918 springs and 2.02/1.60 valves. The port work is very very nice but I mostly just want the aluminum heads for the weight and I believe like a set of afr 210s or trickflows have to flow better.

The AFR 210s are LT4 heads and wouldn't work with your intake. Best bet is stay LT1 style and get ported stock heads from AI or LE. Also send them your intake. Because not a lot of people do the gm carb intake I don't know if AI would have a CNC program for it, you might want to call, so that would lean me towards LE since hell do it all by hand, and for cheaper.

The intake is actually the lt4 version of the gm carb intake. So lt4 heads will work fine. I also spoke to Tony Mamo some time back and he said lt1 intakes work as well just have to open up the top of the runner or leave as is.

Neat ride.

The 944s were legendary in their day for superb handling and balance. Does the car retain it's poise with a V-8 in it's nose? You'd be well-served to go with aluminum heads just to take a few pounds off the front as much as anything else.

The v8 does not mess with the handling as much as I thought it would. Biggest thing I've noticed is under hard acceleration she gets a lot of lift in the front end which throws off the steering feel a little. Overall handling is still very nice. I'm running stiffer springs in the front to handle the extra weight and looking into a rear coilover to help with the squat under acceleration. Biggest downfall is loss of power brakes. The plan is to switch to a tilton pedal box and run individual master cylinders for front and rear which will fix the very stiff pedal.
