Default LT1s and Underdrive...

I was just curious how well the LT1 responds to a new crankshaft pulley??

I used to have one. I couldn't tell any difference. Track times comparison might have told a different story or a dyno run.

at the track, yank off the belt for just one pass, the beauty of the lt1 is its water pump is shaft driven, so it wont overheat. Picks you up like .2-.4 the faster you are the less it helps.

I remember seening a website started by a guy with a 96 WS6. He started with the car brand new and bone stock. He dynoed his car stock and began modifing documenting each and every mod with dyno sheets. With the crank pulley, I remember he gained approximately 3.5 RWHP. I will try to find that site and post it if I can.

The site is ws6.com. I have a friend who gained .1 and 1 mph with underdrive crank and alternator pullies. The gain was nice but it killed his battery and he had to get a jump from a stang in the staging lanes.

I run one on my wifes Impala SS. We do not need the Alt pulley like F-bodies. But we did notice that the revs climbed a little quicker and it did take about a consistant tenth off in the 1/8th

i belive the solution to the batt problem was to get a overdrive pully for the alty.

A bolt on underdrive isnt worth much, but a replacement pulley is, like the ASP ones. They are about 150 bucks though, but much less rotating weight, as well as the underdrive. I never had the alternator pulley on mine and never had charging issues.

I had one on my car when I bought it, but it needed a new belt and the numbers were worn off, and I couldn't match the belt up with any sizes at the local shops. Took the underive pulley off so I could put a stock belt on, and didn't notice a difference in power at all.

I dont get it, why not just take the belt off, It makes a HUGE diff. you can deffinitely feel going down the strip, and you slice .2-.4 (depending on how fast you already are),..... plus its FREE!

True that works but some guys dont want to get dirty at the track. I will try pulling my belt off next time i go. I dont know how much it will help me being i have a pully kit already. Pulley are on 24-7 and i felt it when i first modded my car. I think it is a good starting point with the intake exaust filter etc.

Yes pulling the belt gave me an additional .05 over the ASP pulley. 60s were 1.687 and 1.689

Heres the problems...
you cant do it on the street
You are running an EFI car straight from the battery, get maybe 1 or 2 runs before you need to charge it again
No power steering sucks

well, like I said the faster you go the less it seems to help... When I was stock it took .1 off my 60' alone!!! now it only takes .02 off my 60'

I found the site with a before and after dyno graph for a 96 WS6.
