Default '95 Formula vs. '01 GT

I was challenged to race and whoever wins has the title for fastest car in school so I hate to lose to a freaken Mustang.

'95 Formula A4 3.23's LT's, Catted Y, Catback, CAI, TB Airfoil, 160* thermostat, MadZ28 tuning, plugs and wires
vs.
'01 GT A4 3.73's Shorty's, O/R H-pipe, Catback, CAI, Underdrive Pullies, Handheld Tuner

Who would win and how close? I assume me but I have my doubts...What would be the best for me, racing from a standstill or racing on the highway starting at a particular mph? I just want to make sure I dont get hurt by his 3.73's so how should I race him? thanks

EDIT 4/13/06: I raped him from a 55mph roll and from a dig.

Well, stock for stock with manuals, you're slightly faster, and you're way faster when compared with auto and auto. Do either of you have DRs? If not, then you should take him. Run him from a dig AND a roll. Do both. He'll have a much better shot from a dig, but not enough to win.

nope we both have street tires. What mph should I race from a roll with so that I have tons of torque sitting there ready to unleash and help me keep up with his 3.73's? Is racing from a dig the same as stand still??

Stop or roll you got him.

With his mods I would he is more then likey in the 13.8/13.9 99/100mph range. With your mods I would think easy 13.2/13.3 103/104 range.

A friend of mine has a 00GT 5sp that with off hpipe, mufflers,no silencer on DR's cut a 2.05 60ft and ran a 13.99/99 in stock form he ran 14.4's. The 5speed as a steep first gear{3.27} so it fires out of the hole but a A4 has like a {2.48} first gear with 281 cubics it's not actually a torque monster.

Well I tested the car out on the way home from school and I'm gonna firmly suggest we race from a 15-20mph roll because holy hell it takes off from those speeds. I stopped in the middle of the road and slammed it and I got way too much tire spin so I'm gonna try to avoid racing from a dig.
What's a good mph to race from a roll on the highway??? I forget the right mph's that the LT1 likes to launch from.

You should be fine from a dig if you just flash your stock stall. From a highway roll, I've always been pretty comfortable with a 30-40 mph roll.

sounds like a good mph range, what does flash the stock stall mean exactly?

you want to get your motor to about 4k from a roll. Weather it be first gear or second.

Hell yes it would!!!! While you are waiting for your car to downshift he will get the move or a car length and a half. Does your car have 1 on the shifter or does it say 2,D,OD?

If it has a 1 option then a first gear roll with you from 4k is your best option. But if your car only offers 2nd and up then you want to put it in second and 4k{problaly 50/55 mph}. Trust me. I work with a guy that has a 96 TA. Car has that warbird hood with the ram air intake and a muffler. I set up a race between him and my friends 00 GT. The ta wanted to roll from 40 so they did...... BAD IDEA on the TA part. The amount of time it took the trans to downshift the GT put 2/3 cars. It was all over from there because the mustang was in his powerband and the TA had to wait on his. GT won buy 5/6 lengths. I suggested the go from 50/55 so the TA could hold 2nd gear. Now the TA had 3.23's and the mustang had 3.27's so there was no excuses at that speed they where both right in there powerbands. From the hit the TA fired out almost 2 cars. Now the GT was faster then the TA so he pulled back up at 130. The differance between his GT and the one your are racing is the 5speed vs auto. Auto usually trap 2/3 less the a stick does because it takes more power to turn the auto.

FYI: Fords 5speed usually robs 15% while thier autos rob between 20/20%.

^ I have 1, 2, 3, D on my shifter. So say I start it out in 1st or 2nd gear then do I throw it into D right as it redlines?
