Default max lift stock short block?

Does anyone know the max lift on a stock shortblock? My cam is a .568 on the intake with a 1.6 and I want run a 1.7.

Max lift has nothing to do with it.

You should worry if your springs can do that

The shortblock does not limit your lift, the valvetrain does.

I'm talking about piston to valve clearance. I will put the correct springs on the heads but the intake lift will be .602 and I don't want to smack pistons. I have heard the lt1 motor has a health valve relieve and could handle that much lift.

that depends on the valve events more.... more duration and less LSA along with larger valves cause the P to V clearance to shrink.

Bret is correct....you should be more concerned with duration since I assume you are using stock valves (or dont want to pull the heads).

Just as a very vauge reference.....I have run a 242 duration cam with right at .600" (112LSA) lift on a stock shortblock/stock head setup. I did run a thinner gasket (FelPro 1074/.039") and P to V was .095" on the intake valve.....I didnt feel comfortable pushing it any more than that since I prefer to have over .100-.110" clearance.

The cam is a 236/242 .568/.548 on a 109 lobe sep. The heads will be ported with larger valves. With the 1.7's it will make my lift .603/.582.

250/256 .630" or so on a 112. no problems with ptv clearance. I am also running a thinner head gasket. That being said, or typed rather, you should always check. i am also running a 2.0 1.56 valve setup.
