Default simplest way to rig up a push button start?

I'm wondering what the simplest way to rig up a push button start is... can i just splice a couple wires to a switch , and be done?

I do know that the sweetest lookin' button/bezel would be out of an Honda S2000.

I have seen a step by step writeup on this in a 4th gen Fbody, but can't remember where.

i've seen the s2000 button.. that is really sweet

if you could find that step by step, that'd be awesome.

It looks like my ignition switch or something isn't working right, so i figure it'll be cheaper to do a pushbutton start than replace the part

We tried this on my car, i put it in my cigarette lighter since the person before me broke it and pushed it through, and it fit right in. I went to the honda dealership and bought one for like 30 bucks, and now its sitting in my garage. We wired it all up, it worked, put the console back together, it stopped working. Pulled it apart, checked all the connections, it worked, put the console back together and it wouldn't work. Couldn't get it to work again after that so we gave up lol. Looked pretty cool, i'm sure if we pulled it apart again we could get it to work.

hmm.. since our keys have the little chip in them.. do the keys have to be in the ignition for the push button start to work? or does it completely bypass this?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Wouldn't this make a car really easy to steal?

my thoughts exactly... but if the key needed to be in it.. it'd make things alot more secure...

i'll just be extra careful to lock my doors once this is in.

Im sure you put the key in and turn it to on and then push the button. Thats how almost all push button starters Ive ever seen worked except lie the C6 and a few others.

You still need the key to be in the ignition, in the "ON" position. All the button does is replace the last key motion from "ON" to "START". You can wire it so that the key still has complete functionality, or so that only the button will start the car. I put one in my SS in place of the cigarette lighter.

I would say for security sake, place the button in a spot like under the dash, and disable the key start. If you placed it somewhere out of sight, where someone trying to steal the car wouldn't look, it would be pretty darn safe. Especially if the key's "start" option was disabled for the push button start. It's not very "bling", but it'd be much safer.

Excellent idea if your primary motivation is increased security.

to those of you who did this, about how long did it take you to complete?? from the instructions i've seen, shouldn't take more than an hour or so to do the wiring, and maybe a little time fabbing up a spot to put the button.

From what everyone has said it should fit fine right in place of your cig lighter, that is if your not a smoker and don't use it
