YES!!! My pretty much stock lt1 beat an ls1!
haha. Check this story out! I was so happy. Well I see this orange firebird (98-02) show up on the highway in front of me, then I'm like I'll show this firebird whats up. I caught up with him and floored it, but then just as I was about to floor it, he floors it too, he floored it before me. Then I notice that he is keeping up with me, I'm like WTF! (I thought it was a V6 firebird but then notice on the doors that it said "Formula"). Since he floored it first he was ahead of me leaving my front bumper on his fender area. But then once my car hit 60, I started pulling away from him slowly! I was like awesome, I'm beating an ls1. Not sure what that car had done to it, but seemed stock. I have a 96 lt1 with only a cold air intake, modified pcm, and rear end gears. I'm happy to be an underdog lt1 guy.

Good kill! 3.73's do make a huge difference! I had almost the same thing happen to me after my gear install and tune. I raced a 98 LS1 2 times - once from a start and once from 55. From a start he pulled me on me about a half a car to 60 then we hit traffic. I spun pretty good and he got a jump on me. I then raced him from 55 to 90 and put a solid car on him.

I would think that having a gear would slow you down up top. From 55, I don't see how the gear would help you pull on him more. It's not like your gaing Rwhp, you know? I guess I don't know much about gears...

Gears give you better acceleration, they put you in your "powerband" or use the power more effectively.....Just imagine if you have a lot more mods, like LT headers, and everything else. I can't wait till I get my nitrous put in, and my 3.73s, and my 3200 stall. It's going to be kick ***.

I raped a 99 SS,he pulled me off the line but I spun.Once I hooked I probably put 3 on him on the street.He said his traction control slowed him down but he didnt want any more.He doesnt believe my 95 TA m6 with 146000 miles is stock.But all I have is moroso CAI,no cat and TB bypass and thats a fact, man I love stepping on those"ALL MIGHTY" LS1's.I know they are faster,well most of them,but there are some slower ones out there.The 99 also had cat-back and a rigged-up air box,maybe thats what slowed him.He actually sold the damn car right after that he couldnt take the abuse he got at work.

I got a 02SS one day on the highway. Some guy and his girl were looking at me as I cruised by, he revved it at me, and she told me I had a slow piece of crap. I hit it and left them, he couldn't catch it. He followed me to where I got off, and pulled up alongside of me at a redlight and asked what I had in it. I told him it was a little more than he wanted to play with. He then raced me off the light and I embarrased him again.

At the track with my 97 Formula with just a CAI and Madz28.com tune, I ran a 13.8 with full raceweight in my A4. I raced a 99 Trans Am WS6 and his best was a 13.6 completely stock. Gears help a lot....
I then added long tube headers and ran a 13.4 with a 2.1 60' time and beat every stock LS1 I had raced at the track.
