GM847 is a big cam for a DD but it can be done if you want something thats more aggressive then the LT4 HOTCAM then try say... the XE224/230 its more aggressive but not as bit as the 847
I voted yes, but i suggest thinking about it long and hard first before you put it in on a DD

ive been putting ALOT of thought into this...and im still undecided. Is the xe224/230 bigger than the gm846? i kind of want something in between the gm846 and gm847. Would that be something like a cc305 cam?

I voted no
I just sold my 847 DD, I think that cam is alittle big for a DD. Its a great cam, and the car sounded awsome and pulled like hell.
I know for awhile I was saying it was fine, but I think I just didn't realize how the car was on the street compared to a smaller cammed car, or even just a bolt on car. Also i drove about 20 miles a day to work and back , and alot more on weekends. It used a ton of gas. Would have been more fun as a weekend car, but not something I had to drive everyday in the rain ect...

I thought cc306 is a tad bigger!!!!

I think in the ballpark of big cams it's the best profile it takes a i nice chunk of dookie on aftermarket profiles. So in between big cams for me it's the only choice.
But nah on a DD not for me, I'm more of a go big or go small, never really looked at a medium, but I do think the Lingenfelter profiles were very sharp on a medium sized. You should check those out.
Also if u have to ask questions if it will due on a DD, my rule is then lean on the smaller.

Does anyone know the specs on a gm847? I am trying to compare it to a cc306. I am going to get the biggest cam that i can get and still keep the car driveable everyday.

come on ppl...i need some more opinions and reasons why or why not?? I was thinking of getting either the gm847 or cc306 with 1.5rr so the lift wouldnt be too much. Im not trying to squeeze every bit of power out of it, but i love the way those cams sound.

the cam pulls from 2000-7000 rpm depending upon your setup (stall, rockers, heads, springs, etc.) and makes great power with a great idle that sounds like a beast. the bad part for a stock cube/head motor is that the cam itself will not reach its full potential because of head and air restrictions. It will make great power but be really choppy and possibly surge from time to time. I'd say fully tuned it would be fine, but would suck some gas with that big duration, even with 1.5's. The 847 is a serious cam that will really wake up a stock lt1 and gain a lot of power but will sacrifice mileage and possibly hot weather and cold start manners.

i just didnt do a custom because of time constraints with the build...my daily has a 383 which calms down the 847, but i dont have time to wait for the custom. if you have time to wait get one ground like many will suggest.
