building a fast n/a lt1
now I have a 383 that I'm putting a 847 into with advanced induction heads, forged bottom end, etc. I also have a 3200 stall'd built 4l60 and a 12 bolt with 3.73's as well as a good suspension and lightened as far as I could go without a new kmember/a-arms. I'm assuming its about a 3350 raceweight (no cage) or so...I'm hoping the 847 will give my car the grunt for low 11's...does this sound possible? The only future mod will be a built t56 for more track fun and higher launches, and Ill practice enough to be really consistent, I hope. how many lt1 guys are going this fast with a n/a, hydraulic cammed car? Is this possible or should it run faster/slower. It's really light and set up really well, so I have confidence but I didn't know what to expect.

I agree that your race weight is down, and you have bigger cubes as well. However I think you are going to fall short on your goal of low 11's with the 847 cam. Don't get me wrong that is a good off the shelf cam, but there are many other ways to go with customer grinds, etc that would benefit your combo much more.
Also with a 4L60e I feel you will ET better of course, and with the lower drive line weight you will probably get more life out of the trans.

The fastest M6 N/A LT1 is the 10.49 by the red formula, but it's solid roller. So, you "should" be within a half second of that with hydraulic roller. Being that you've already lightened the car and have correct suspension, you should be able to squeeze low 11s, maybe high 10s. Good luck.

thanks for the input...i know a lot of full weight solid roller guys are mid to low 11's on motor, so im smaller on the cam, but im hoping the weight will help. also there's a guy on here with a green t/a that short-shifts a 306 (nitrous setup) to a 11.15 supposedly, so I realize this is a close comparison but I thought reving higher might keep me around there.

does anyone know the fastest hydraulic roller car? i was just trying to stick with a hydraulic for now to keep a more "streetable" setup. although i realize a solid roller can be streetable, i was looking to first make the fastest shelf/hydraulic cam car and go from there.

Today at GLD(Milwaukee area) with a b-body club racing I went 12.9 4 times with some wheelspin with my car. Raceweight 4250 with me maybe a little more if anything. Drove it almost 150 miles EACH WAY to do that. May not sound impressive but it was HOT and humid with the announcer pounding it into everyones head to drink plenty of fluids every 5 minutes. Car is also NOT particularly setup for drags, both swaybars on heavy wheels even for the slicks. I have a cam from AI signifigantly smaller than the 847, similar to the 503. Oh and this is a 100k mile stock shortblock 3400 Edge and 3.73s. Car went 12.5 on a decent weather night in June and is tame enough to tow my small fishing boat. In good MD weather my car should do a high 11. IF you listen to AI and let them help including maybe a different cam I think your goal is attainable you are going to have to get things right though suspension being a BIG part of it.

If low 11s are your goal you may be able to make it. That cam is way small for a 383 that wants to go fast but will be fine for the streetability part you want. Your going to have to hook hard and really bang the gears to get that thing to low 11s. Good luck..hope you hit your goals.
By the way guys..Bens car is a th350 like stated above. And the NA lt1 6 speed record is 10.39@131.7 now.

I disagree with more than half of y'all, but have good reason.
Though I believe that there are better cams than the 847 (even shelf-cams), I think the car will run quite good.
Here's my last car:
'89 Firebird Coupe, 3400 lb, 3.73 gears, 700R-4, Vigilante 3200 "6" pump.
11.3/1, 383, 5.7 rod, AFR 210 RaceReadies no extra porting, GM 847 cam, Victor Jr., Holley 750, SLP 1 3/4" Shorties, SLP muffler.
The car ran 11.0 at 122.5 mph on BFG Drag Radials.

My 355 was hydaulic roller with a 236/242 Xtreme energy comp cam and on the motor it went 11.6@118 NA.... That was when it weighed a ton and had zero suspension work to it.... lightened with an optimized suspension i think it coulda gone maybe like 11.2-11.3's.... so you are not far off from your goals but you might wanna read someone that just got a golen 383 and it put down terrible numbers... mighta been his heads and cam but it would still scare me away from them..... There will be a few NA LT1's that should run low 10's or high 9's soon....
