Default Difficulty in modding ZR-1's???

Hey all, I am under the impression that Lt-1's are more difficult to make fast or mod compared to the LS-1. What I am wondering is if the Zr1 is difficult as well to mod, or really pricey to do so? Can anyone fill me in?

That Engine is real pricy to mod.. there aren't many of them around. And it's a LT5 Engine, the ZR1 is the name of the car. Some people might get confused..

If you are asking about the LT5 engine found only in the 90-95 ZR-1 Corvettes...., the answer is the "Cost-Of-Cool ain't Cheap!"

ALL Hail to the King!

Near impossible to find parts for those things. I couldn't even tell you where to go for aftermarket stuff. If there is any.

I'm sorry guys but I think youre all way off. I lurk the ZR1 forums and they will tell you that the #1 myth about ZR1's is that theyre pricey to mod and hard to get any parts for. Theyll show you that's just BS. Ive really grow to respect ZR1's now and when I go through my mid life crisis I plan on getting one.

Those motors are ******* beasts. Too bad there is barely any room in a Corvettes engine bay to mod. I'd love to have one of those.

ZR-1, Ask the man who owns one...., which I do.

The LT5 is a great engine. Bullet Proof is the word for a powerplant that can run for 24 hours at an average speed of 175 mph. And it is MAJOR COOL POINTS that the LT5 is the only Corvette engine that was never installed in any other production GM vehicle.

Agree that parts are out there. Somehow a myth has taken hold that the engine can't be fixed because of a lack of spares. Not true at all. Chevy did sell off its LT5 parts a couple of years ago, but the good news is that the bulk went to some major Corvette builders. Maybe that is where the "can't find parts" rumor came from - - - Don't expect LT5 parts to be in stock at your local AutoZone.

The limiting factor for mods is that there are only about 4 to 5 guys in the WORLD who really understand how to get more power out of a LT5. None of them are cheap.

An Example - Marc Haibeck is one of the best and his packages are priced from $9799 to $27,999. http://www.zr1specialist.com/

BTW..., I sold my C5 Z06 to buy a ZR-1.

Why..., pop the hood and you'll get the answer everytime!

Man those are sexy motors. I believe I saw a thread once somewhere with a poll. In the end more people would rather have a zr1 than a C5. That says alot.

And ZR-1 values have bottomed out. So many good low-mile cars out there that the prices are artificially depressed. Now is the time to get one.

Only 6993 ZR-1s were ever made. Unlike the current Hemi Musclecar "got-to-have-one" boom, the ZR-1 cannot be "faked/cloned/recreated."

I think the most intresting fact pointed out to me was the ZR1 was the only Vette that didnt share it's engine with any other production car. If you know anyone willing to trade a kidney or first born for one let me know, I have both

The reason you hate it is why some love it. The C4 is a rougher ride tighter fit car than the luxory C5.

That was what I got from a short search. I'm sure with some hard research we can get some average times and MPH etc.

Yea I was speaking of the LT5 when I started the thread, I just wasnt for sure @ what year they started putting the LT5 in when I started it yesterday. I have an ok idea of why, when reading it said the zr-1 had 405hp and only 284lbs of torque, how come? Is it because its more for higher revving and maybe a higher compression ratio or what not? Just curious.
