Default car over heating very quickly

Not mine it's my brothers 96 camaro.

It's hard for me to tell what's wrong because he's in houston and im 500 miles away.

It had a 160 stat in but we thought it was bad so he changed it to a 180 for the time. Water pump seems to be working well. It's an electric by the way.
Fans work for sure.
Twice he had the resivor explode with coolant coming out everywhere.

Another thing I might mention because I've heard some bad things about this is I used Bar's Stop Leak to stop a coolant leak on it.
DOnt know if that can actually clog up other things or what??

any ideas??

radiator cap will make it boil over into the resivoir. have him replace that. its $11 from the dealer.

also, make sure theres no coolant in the oil.

Make sure it's burbed; trapped air will make it overheat quickly.

Maybe it needs some hard core flushing? I have a thing against any kind of "stop leak" product inside the engine.

I think the previous owner tried that with mine on a Head Gasket problem..it went at a stop sign. That was the old motor.

a problem i had before, mine overheats now and ill try what they suggested.

but awhile back she kept running hot, its a 94 t/a and i could not figure out why. anyway the fans plastic housing, popped out of its spot and was still attached but was a gap between it and the radiator. it was laying against the the donkey tube from the bellows, anyway popped it back into place, there is 2 clips on on each end of the top part of the radiator and it popped right in. cant remember if it was before or after i had the rad replaced.
