Default cam removal

one quick question. when removing the harmonic balancer, should i leave the pulley attached the balancer hub, or remove the pulley only first?

we pulled the balancer off and obviously the crankshaft hub is in the way of removing the removing the timing cover.

just want to know if the hub/pulley should be removed in one step?

no pull balancer first then hub. If you could get both off together ,then I dont see why it would matter.

Mine are together (ASP unit). I can pull them both but it takes a couple tries. Pull a little, undo the puller and unscrew the bolt some, repeat as needed. Also helps if you take that washer off the bolt.

Are you using this guide?

also, a water pump bolt will allow you to pull it all the way off at once, but it has to be the long one so that it bottoms out and has a 1/2 inch or more sticking out. just an easier way i found of getting it off.

I took the Balancer off, and used a Steering Wheel Puller.

"and unscrew the bolt some, repeat as needed"

which bolt are you refering too...is that runs down the hub toward the crankshaft?? if so, that one has been MIA since i took some of it apart about 3 months ago (hints the reason i'm having to ask questions about this).

if so, what length/thread size is it, i'll have to buy another one

You ran the balancer without that center bolt?! The hub is not keyed so it could have easily slipped around the crank. I'll see if I can check it when I go home.

There is a center bolt that is inside the middle of the hub going into the crank. You can look inside with a flashlight to see it. I didnt know it was there the first time I pulled my hub. Yeah that would be a major thing if you ran it without that bolt.

i did not run it without that bolt, the car has been torn down for a while i'm just now getting around to getting to working on it again. what i was saying was that i'm pretty sure that i pulled it out when i first starting disassembling the car.

now for something that might help...what length/thread is that bolt?
