Default This Lunati cam? what do you think?

How does this cam sound
I'm not planning on porting the heads, but i'm probably going to buy a set down the road.

Lunati 60122

231/239 duration at 50
.535/.550 with 1.5 rockers
110 lobe separation

2400-6200 My current mods are in the sig

Would a small 50-75 shot be safe on this cam?

Looks like a nice cam. From my calculations it has 15deg of over lap @.050. Just slightly more than the 847 cam, and that seems to work just fine on nitrous. I posted a question in the nitrous forum reguarding a general number for max over lap @.050 for a nitrous cam, and never got an answer. I think it would work just fine on spray, but I am by no means a cam expert so maybe someone could help us both out on this one.

That small of a shot will be fine on that cam. That's one of the ones I probably would have gone with (or the 60123) if I hadn't found mine for so cheap. Check out the comp xfi cams as well.

yeah the 60123 cam is the cam that my friends told me to buy, but I don't want to get more then I was looking for.

How would either of those cams before local daily runs around town?

Have you ever ridden around in a big cammed car before? This cam has more overlap than the gm847 and cc306 so it will have quite a bit of cam surge. And that cam is gonna want to be revved past 6200, my gm846 was only a 222/230 and I was shifting it at 6500.

It's pretty big for a daily, and doesn't make **** downlow. Old cam lobe technology sucks.... It's 296/304 advertised duration, IRCC the T-rex is pretty close ot that.

Think about this long and hard buddy. I often wish I would have gone with a different cam. I see guys all over here going just as fast and faster than me with much smaller cams like 503s and Hot Cams. It sounds cool and all but kinda sucks for the street.

Lunati if you ask me. Did you look at the xfi 467 or 468 grinds? You can also get them to use different lobes custom to your specs for just a little more which is what I did. I wanted something between the 467 and 468

okay I looked into the 467 cam
Looks good

what about nitrous with it

With nitrous is it exhaust duration or lift that needs to be higher then the intake?

Its nice to have a little more lift and duration I believe. For as small of a shot as you plan on running, I would go with a cam that makes the most hp on motor. I think the 847 or the lunati with both work good.

My cam is a LITTLE smaller then a LT4 hot cam and have been told by many it should run LOW 12's maybe high 11's on the motor, stock bottom end, peak power at 5600 rpm.

A good rule of thumb, if your cam is not much smaller then a cam that 383+cui guys are using then your cam is to big.

If your cam makes peak power at 6700-7,000 RPM you wil never be able to spin your stock bottom end that fast, or at least for very log....

NO POINT IN HAVING A CAM THAT HAS PEAK POWER THAT YOU CAN NOT USE!!!!

Get something that will go with your gears and stall.
A buddy of mine had the same grind cam that I have in another car and with stock gears and converter the car ran like crap. With a 3200 stall and 4.10's the car screamed.
Cams also love ported intakes and heads.

TREX is not really a daily driver cam if you have to ask me, as far as I know the valve springs last like 5k miles or something crazy lol.
Idle is pretty annoying if you ask me, sounds like its barley runing.
If I had an LS1 car it would probably have an MS4 cam in it.

Id say like 90% of the people on here with 847's would go FASTER with smaller cams.

That lunati cam you found looks pretty good. For stock heads/shortblock, maybe look at the cc503 or even the Crane 227. They're smaller, but as was said, bigger isn't always better.
