De-screening MAF, good or bad?

Bad idea, your mass air flow sensor (MAF) is a thermistor. That means the resistance of the wire changes based on temperature. The way your MAF works is it maintains a steady temperature and then watches how much voltage it must provide to maintain a steady temperature. As air flows across it the air absorbs some of the energy from heat of the wire thus cooling the wire off. The MAF then must apply more voltage the more air that flows accross it. In removing the screen from the MAF you are introducing turbulance (and if i remember correctly the air should try to flow towards the front of the pipe more) thus the MAF isn't seeing all of the air you take into the engine. The screen smooths out the turbulence and gives an even distribution of air accross the MAF sensor. There are no gains to be had in removing the screen. It is not a restriction at power levels up to 500hp. If you want to remove your MAF screen then remove the MAF entirely and get it tuned out.

Well, it seems to run fine so far, no popping but it still has not gotten hot yet, i will see about eliminating mine too, i have a G2 cold air on the way, so i will be giving pcm4less a call in the near future, i was gonna eliminate the EGR and o2s prolly.

Well, on a back to back dyno run, changing from a descreened maf to a screened one, my car gained one pony with the screen. Also, on the dyno pull without the screen my A/F was wacky and the curves were a little jumpy. That was actually the thing that we were trying to figure out and tried a maf with a screen and it brought the A/F back to normal and smoothed out the curves. I never noticed any problems with it in my daily driving travels but, watching it perform back to back like that changed my mind and I have a screened one now.
