Placed early 406 into 94 firebird..
Well totalled my 87 trans-am a couple of months ago - was a pretty sweet car I have had and been building for years.. had a pretty respectable
10.8 pump gas street car and 10.0 on 150 shot - also pump gassed..
Well as luck would have it, I totalled it..
Picked up a 94 v6 firebird $1500, paid friend of a friend $1200 to paint it -
Currently installing engine, hope to have running next day off.. transplanted the 406 and t56 as well as my 1990 7730 ecm for control.. Kind of a step backward in technology but a proven combo..
Anyway here are some pics with in this thread...

Sorry, unable to post due to files to large

Hope you didn't pay much for that hood >_> Doesn't even line up with the Drv headlight. Kinda ugly too lol
I think you mean Late 406. Early 406 would've been a BBPontiac. And so the 406 is a TPI motor or what? Should make for quite the odd duck lol TPI motor in a 4th gen V6 car
I tanked my 91's motor, I miss that car.

Dude - thats pretty gay!! try to share my project and the first reply I get is a bashing??
As for the hood - the rubber bumperes were out for painting... the hood may be ugly, but if it feed my engine air I can live with it Its a harwood though...

So I'm bashing the hood, so what Unless you think "odd duck" = bashing. That usually makes something 'cooler' in my opinion. You become unique. Hell, when we stuck a 350 SBC in a Mustang, that was one HELL of an odd duck, but it was sweet as hell lol
And as Gun5 said, 10s is highly impressive. I assume that wasn't made on the stock TPI base and plenum? (Replaced by a miniram I mean) How much power does that motor make anyhow?

Formula350 - did not mean to jump defensive, just felt a little attacked - my misunderstanding..
Well as for leaving ot white - it was a very hard decision between red, sunset,
and white - like them all, but have always been partialed to red..
Also the project had to be sorta low budget - I did not have "value" insurance on my TA - so the generous $3200 I got after buy back hardly paid for my losses..... I have always loved the formula look, wanted the flow of the ramair, as the more ducting you have to intake is just further restiction.. I am not "totally" satisfied with the hood, but have it ligned up pretty decent right now and can make better with a little work.. The level camera angle made that look worse than it is..
The engine is a early 400 block +.030,11:1,Mini Ram, afr 195 l98 angle plug heads, lunati solid roller 242/248 on 112, 3.73's..
I do my own prom tuning, use ecm's tcc output to activate spray when used.
Will be putting my convo pros on all the way around - putting the thirdgen rear in so can use the deep offset wheels in rear as well...
Never had car on a dyno, guess FWHP to be around 540-560 natural judged off my best trap of 128 and 3450 weight. Maybe 660ish on spray..
Will be using my jegster TQ arm on rear.. Believe it or not, all passes have been on the stock 10 bolt... Been in the car since it was an auto and running 14's - only upgrade being torsion diff and gm 3.73's.. car has bested 60ft time of 1.42 natural and 1.38 spraying at 20 mph..
KNew it was going to blow - so figured I would abuse it till it did - guess what, it outlasted the car.. and its was raced on a regular basis, and driven often.. Wanted to go 9.99 on a stock 10bolt, never could get.. 10.07 being best.. Could have sprayed more, or sooner but did not want to press my luck.. All previous best were with 700r4, last year was the t56 addition... Only tracked a few times after install, with the 3.73;s being to tall now for the M6, slipping the clutch to save rear bested 11.02 @ 126 with 1.54 60ft.. so it should be back to best natural 10.87 with a 12 bolt and hard leaving.. have not sprayed with the M6 yet..
P.S.: If anyone wondered,
there is about 0/00 clearance between distributer and cowl! May actually cut bottom out, but do not want water to run directly on dis when washing/raining.. Gonna suck to drop cradle just to change a plug wire..

Formula350, please keep your comments focused (engine swap) and constructive. There is no need to bash the "look" of someones car in a thread that is focused on an engine swap.
87_TA, cool project! I love seeing powerful SBC's dropped into 4th gens....especially with a T56! Very cool. Keep us posted!

Did not get hurt - kinda surprised, have big dent in roof from my hand I think and broke the **** out of the dash.. Not a scratch!
Yes he did paint all, if you look on third page of that post there are pics of engine bay - does not look great in pic, the dull spots are compound and dust, also going to change wireloom soon also.. will look really nice I think...
He actually did a great job under hood.. also battery will be in trunk soon, just throwing things in now to get it running..

Dude that looks good. I would like to see some pics all together in a Car Domain or something after you get it done. Just laid out in an album so you can see 'em all. I think it's an A+ project.
