New F-body owner, Questions/Concerns
Allright, Im new here, so go easy on me. Heh.
I purchased a 93 Z28, M6 recently. The previous owner told me that it needed a new opti which isnt a suprise with 152k. He had already removed the radiator and fans, and all the duct work, and had the 3 bolts out of the harmonic balancer, but hadnt pulled it yet.
This is where I come in. I go ahead and get the MSD opti, along with a new coil, and plugs, Both msd, and Put it all back together.
To my suprise, the car starts on the first crank, after sitting for 2, maybe 3 years. However, I hear what sounds like an altenator baring grinding. I figure thats ok for the price I paid for the car. ($1000)
I walk around the car, to listen to the exhaust note. It has a slight miss at idle, but clears up with light throttle above 2krpm. Again, I figure thats allright, considering the time the car sat. I leave it idling, and attend to something else, and within 10 minutes or so I come back, to find it idleing low, and rough, and just as Im about to crawl into the drivers seat, It dies, and as I crank the engine, it wont catch, Not even a little put.
I let it cool down, and try to start it again, but still no use.
After searching a bit, Im starting to wonder If installing the O-ring incorrectly would create such a situation. Im also wondering, if that grinding I heard was the rotor rubbing on the cap of the distributor...
Does this sound like an Incorrect install? I wish MSD would be more clear about installment, along with having a little bit better machined lip for the o-ring to sit on...

Could be. But you might want to check the fuel pressure and change the fuel filter before you tear back into it. Being that it sat for so long did you put fresh gas in it?

No.. I didnt.. It had a little less than a 1/4 tank left. I suppose I should try a little fuel stabilzer, along with some fresh hightest and a new filter. I probably should have mentioned I did smell a little fuel inside the car, although that might have been from me holding the throttle a little while cranking.

Coolent temp sensor was faulty, Along with the evap purge solenoid. Runs like a dream now, aside from a little random miss here and there at idle.
Strange though, Im still getting a code 26, even though I replaced the purge solenoid, and checked all the associated wiring, and everything seems to be ok.
