Default A ticking noise in my newly built motor.

Hey guys,

Well i;ve noticed that if i drive between two cars or near a curb or anything that allows engine noise to reverberate back to my ears, i hear a ticking sound. its not an exhaut leak cause all my header bolts are tight. Could this be my rockers needing to be tightened down? Do new built motors need to have their rockers adjusted 500 miles after being ran?

I plan to finally put the cam in next weekend so i may wait until then to adjust my rockers. I've just never been good at adjusting them even when i follow shbox's guide.

You are probobly hearing the roller rockers. I have a higher lift cam than you do and mine does the same thing, with the stock cam they were muche quieter. Just the nature of roller rockers IMHO.

How many turns past zero lash are they set at?

It's the roller rockers, and apparently they're do it forever. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea though to have them double checked, now that the cam is worked a little.

ah, okay. It just worried me a little.

Also i hear a hissing noise on the passenger side of my intake. Around the valve cover and whatnot. Yall think i have a leak in my intake gasket or something? It's been this way since i fired the car back up.

We usually assume vacuum leak, before intake leak. I don't even think you'd be able to hear the intake leaking. You sure would be able to tell by poor performance.

i have the same 2 mentioned problems above in my 02 Z28 the hissing i just noticed today, i think theyre may be a leak somewhere cuz like you said it performs fine as does mine, but its just an annoying sound.

i had the same ticking noise and finally found that it was three loose spark plugs. was using a socket that was tothick to fit into the recess of the head. the socket would bottom out on the head and it felt like the plug was tight. took the socket to the grinder and now it works fine. and no more ticking!!!! just thought i would pass that on.
