is this normal on a crank
I have an Eagle 383 forged crank that i had installed. It leaked oil when they started it up so they started to inspect the motor and they took the oil pan off. On the back of the crank there is a circle that is against the thrust washer. This circle has a half moon shape on it and i was wondering if that is normal or is the messed up.

problem with being a 2pc rms crank is if its a cheaper one its probably setup for external balance. in which case to get the front internally balanced so you can use a lt1 style damper can be costly you're probably better off to start with the right crank for both your block rms style and your balancing requirements.

Besides getting F'd on the crank for your application there is nothing wrong with the half moon as you call it. If you look from the end you'll see that is where it is relieved to be able to drill through and lighten the #7/8 rod throw. This is normal on any decent crank you buy except some are drilled at intersecting angles and not straight thru which avoids this.

the part number will be on the front counterweight of a eagle crankshaft. post up the number and I'll lookup what you,ve got.

is what you are looking for. You will need this balanced to the rest of your rotating assembly and buy a flywheel for a 1pc crank if you don't already have one. You will also need to have the balance tab milled off of the LT1 flywheel.
Hope this helps.

After having bought some rocker arms from CNC-motorsports I would advise everyone against buying anything from them.
I would also buy Scat parts before Eagle but a little late for that.

Don't be afraid of that half moon cutout: it's actually just a method used for lightening the crank.
This is a Winberg billet ultra-lite crank that I'm running in my 400 project. This lightening procedure is actually built into the crank's design:
