Default Confirmed, A/C Delete w/ working Heat

I while back "The Merve" started a project to remove the A/C and keep the Heat for a defroster. Well I soon copied it and made a similar set up on my car. Some people had questions about weather or not it would work. Well while driveing yesterday I got caught in the rain and my windows started to fog. Well I turned on the heat and bingo!!! It works. Here are some pics of my setup so you dont have to search it.

What worries me about fogging windows is the defroster uses the AC as a dryer as well, but if it works, that's good.

There are (4) lines total, a compressor, condenser, receiver/dryer, expansion valve and the parts in the black box that are on the firewall. Just pick a part, follow the lines, and unbolt away!

Well I used the Chilton's\haynes manual on removing the A/C. Once I had the heater core and A/C core out of the car, I cut the HVAC box flush with the firewall. Then I clearanced the inside of the HVAC box so it could still move air through the heater core. I used Fiberglass, the Merve used sheet metal. I reinstalled the heater core, cut a piece of sheet metal to cover the hole, ( I put weather striping between the sheet metal and the body) Then I removed the compressor and everything connected to it, put in the 1LE pulley and I was done.

What causes your windows to fog up? usally its the cooler windshield letting water condence on it. buy blowing warm air across the windshield you raise the temp of the glass enuff the the water stops condensing on your windshield. The A/C helps by drying the air yes, ill give you that but it is not nessasary. This did suck for a summer shower in NC where it was already 90 outside and I had to use warm air to dry the windows. It was enuff to get me home and out of the rain.

Hope this helps
