is it worth it
theres a red 1993 z28 camaro for sale at a dealership and i was wondering if if it was woth it to get it. the cross member to the transmission is loose or possibly broken this is what the salesman told me he said it should just needed tightning. the car has 199000 miles on it and when i started it the check engine light was on the interior is clean the paint is fair a small dent in the fender and it idled smoothly. they are asking 3200 and are wanting a 1000 for a down payment and i was just wondering if the lt1 350 engines are good high milege engines. i have had third gen camaros in the past and they werent very faithful so im looking for a car that has the power i want and at the same time is a good daily driver. if it has a few problems thats no problem but as long as it isnt needing a new engine and transmission. i am just starting to build my credit and i dont have anybody to help get any car so i cant get a loan or just go to any car lot and get a car because of my age i am just starting to build my credit and i had the money to put down and the dealer was going to put me in the car today. but i decided i would ask a few people who knew little more about cars more than me.if u can help i will really appreciate it.

uh.... 3200? for a 200,000 mile car.. theres a reason its at a dealership. do you really want a car with that many miles? it may of been taken care of.. u never know. but with that many mile. things will go wrong. trust me. i would keep on lookin. unless you want to rebuild the trans an motor soon.

Just wait. A much better deal will come along.
I would personally find a 94 or newer if it were me, no offense to the 93 guys but in my opinion the 93s with the batch fire and have to burn a chip PCM are just harder to mod with.
If thats your goal.
Just to put it in perspective I recently purchased a 94 Z28 with 138k on it for 4k.

Ive owned my 94 Z28 for only two years now and ive found the common problems are the following, main berings spinning (BAD), the Opti (pretty bad), window motors (kinda bad), and young owners beating them within an inch of thier lives (really bad). Find out if the berings, opti, and trans have been adressed recently. If these have been serviced recently your good to go. If not, be prepared to spend some cash. Also, if you can find out who had the car before (just look at the title) investigate if it was a 18 year old spoon fed kid or a 45 year old maintenance freak. The spoon fed type tend to beat the car and leave nothing but a flower planter in the wake if you know what I mean. Good luck.

kinda high if you ask me...
nearly 3 years ago I paid $3000 cash for a '95 formula w/ 76k miles, cloth interior, hardtop (what I wanted anyway)
I'd keep looking. damn near 200k on a car is up there. even if the motor and tranny had been rebuilt at one point in time (I guarantee the tranny has if its an auto) all the other little things that never get replaced still have 200k on them (body squeeks, t-tops leaking, door pin bushings, etc)

yeah your right young people dont take care of cars. even though i am 19 i agree with you alot but i will keep looking and i hope i find something soon because i have been looking for a while. the problem with my town is that they try to sell the name of the car regardless of how many miles it has on it or what condition it is in. i have been looking on ebay but every time i find a good deal its to far for me to go.

I've got a 93 Formula with 243,000 miles as of yesterday and she runs like a top, granted she was a 1 owner car, 6 speed and I have the original knockouts from the keys and all original paperwork from the car.
As for the car your looking at, i'd say NO, definately. You will be able to find a lower mileage, newer LT1 for cheap in the future, just keep looking

then get a geo or a cavalier and save the fast cars until your out of college....
a lt1 is deff not the most reliable car out there, and things that break usually cost alot....
