Default Header problems!

I had a previous post, (headers and exhaust installed) or something liike that. This is part 2.

I took out the copper gaskets I had and put in normal thick gaskets for my longtubes. Drivers side was a complete bitch to bolt down, passenger side was a breeze.

So once they were in, I did the proper break in for new gaskets. Everything was fine until I did a third WOT run. Then I developed a small leak in the center ports on the drivers side. I let it cool and checked the bolts and they were loose. So I tightened them down, the leak is still there. Anyone have any suggestions?

Probably not what you want to hear but you might need to back the bolts out to loosen the header and see what kind of shape the gasket is in...hate to think they would have tore or cracked already but ya never know.

When I replaced my LT header gaskets I must have backed out and tighted those bolts half a dozen times per side to be sure it was right...havent had a leak since.

Good luck!

that seems like a viable option actually. the only problem is that the two bolts on the edges are super tight so that might be making the middle weaker. ill back it out when cools down.

Ideally want to try and tighted them all up at the same time...few turns each until tight. Will help to be sure the header sits flush when tight.

Unbolt the header and put a straight edge on the flange to see if it's bent.

Use Percy's Dead Soft Alum. Gaskets and tighten the bolts starting from the center ports out. Also buy yourself a set of locking header bolts. Alittle more money for everything, but it will save you many headaches!

They all leak, its an inherent problem with the exhaust and intake port arrangement of LT1's. Even when you cant hear a leak its still leaking. I found it worked best for me to use Flowtech MLS gaskets, clean all the matting surfaces with WD-40 then brake cleen, tighten from the inside out, heat cycle and retighten.
