Default Good way to spend $700?

Hooker Aero Chamber Cat Back - 400
MSD 8.5 Wires - 100
MSD 6AL - 230
Set of NGK 104s (get them locally)

Right now its a stock LT1, with a homemade CAI (that will be improved to be actual cold air)

Is the 6AL Overkill?
Should I get a new coil as well?

I've seen numerous people running the 6AL without problems. However, what is the reason you want to run one? I really don't see the need on a stock or near-stock car. I think that money could be better spent put towards LT headers.

But you're on the right track with plugs and wires. Get those things done first before actual mods come into play.

EDIT: As far as the coil, if you're not experiencing a miss or have a reason to replace it, spend the money elsewhere. But this is all just IMO.

Dont waste your money on the MSD box. The plugs and wires are good maintenance, although really you wont see any gain over stock parts. Stick to the factory coil, unless its gone bad(again aftermarket is really just a waste of money in this area). That cat back is alright, but Id save the money you were going to spend on the MSD box and wait for something that will benefit your car at this level.

wow... hooker cat-back's are up to $400 bucks now? man, and I was bitching about paying $215 for mine!

I agree headers are somewhat of a PITA to install if you've never done it before, and more-so on a stock car. but it makes changing plugs (and wires) a WHOLE lot easier in the future. even gives the engine bay a more spacious look when you don't have the manifolds protruding upwards.

if you're hell-bent against headers, for $700 bucks, I'd get a gear (3.73 if auto, 4.10 if 6spd) an exhaust cut-out, a computer tune, and a tune-up for the motor. that will run roughly $700 bucks if you do the tune-up yourself. if you install the gear, yourself, then you'll have even more left over.

When the catback is getting put on, I think Ill weld on cutouts too.
As for gears, if I did them, I would do it right and get a whole new eaton posi. A little out of budget right now.
The car is my DD BTW.

If you don't plan on doing headers then you won't notice a very big change in exhaust tone, if any, with the hooker on stock manifolds. Just letting you know if your thinking it is gonna sound totally different because it won't.

I beg to differ.
Going from a 2" system with crappy cats, mufflers and resonators to a 2.5" system with cats and good mufflers. Hell removing the 2 resonators on the stock system would be a world of difference.

You don't have to take my word for it. Research the Hooker and see what others have to say. It is known that the Hooker is a VERY quiet catback. Most don't even notice a change with stock manifolds.

I think I'd lean away from hooker just because of the quietness factor.

Here's a thread I wrote a long time ago, hopefully it'll help you find a catback:

That doesnt really apply. the 3" exhaust is huge. Remember this is a caprice with true duals.

If you don't want to do headers, don't bother with the exhaust at all. There isn't really performance to be gained without ditching the manifolds.

You could buy a torque converter...

Not everything has to be afrom a performance stand point. Ever think that my current exhaust has a few problems and am just looking for the best fix? The $900 borla system sucks, and the magnaflow is $200 more than the hooker. Think that the $200 would be better spent elsewhere if I was going for performance?
