Default Oil cooler?

Could i take the two water supply lines that go to the oil cooler THAT ARE CAPED OFF NOW and run them to a sep. radiator, I have a heat exchanger/ rad that is 27"x12"XI" with 1/2 npt fittings on it.
Trying to get the car to run cooler.
p.s. 94 camaro
thanks....

waste of time. get an aftermarket one that will actually take some heat out of the oil and not be a restriction.... if thats what you wanna do.

Stock radiator should be just fine without extra cooling. The LS1 F-bodies had even smaller radiators.

Did you take a look a his mods? I would guess that he is a turbo 396 LT4 so he has a good case for more cooling. With just my NA 396 I found the stock radiator was not up to the task for the roadcourse and had to go bigger. As for running an aux radiator off the cooler lines, I don't really see why it could not be done but am not sure how much of a gain it would really be. You would just have to make sure you have it set up so it will fill correctly and not give you an air pocket.

If you can afford that setup, you can afford an aftermarket radiator.

this sounds like a drag car... i would not think it would overheat after a pass like that.

To actually answer his question...

Yes you could. In effect, you would have two heat exchangers. How much restriction it would put on the cooling system is anyones guess. As stated above, it would be better to invest in a better radiator / fan setup. The LT1 pump, stock or electric, becomes the limiting factor at some point. If you desire etra cooling in only a few isolated circumstances it may work for you.

Sorry for the seemingly dumb Q but are you trying to just get the engine to run cooler or actually cool the oil?

I think that means that he wants a larger coolant capacity and more surface area for the radiator, denney. He's not trying to cool the oil.

TurboZ, have you tried having the radiator cleaned? Mine was full of calcium and my main cooling problem.

The car is a street/drag car.. the car runs hotter when on the highway, but i have a 5" muffler up front above the air dam ,I think that might be the problem... p.S SEAWOLF06 IF YOU SEEN MY TURBO YOU WOULD SEE THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A BIGGER RADIATOR.....

turbo heat and muffler heat all around the radiator cant help... not real sure what to tell ya. maybe you can stick another heat exchanger up in the nose or something. gonna be a plumbing nightmare, though.

You have everything wrapped up in heat wrap right? Have you thought about trying to increase airflow through there to keep the turbo parts cooler that would help with the heat soak.

are you talking road racing here? thats a different animal from cruising on the street or making a 1/4 mile pass.
